Yamaha NS-800A – large 2-way bookshelf speaker from the flagship series
The NS-800A is the large bookshelf speaker from the same series as the NS-2000A – a 2-way system with a large-volume cabinet that delivers more authority and tonal fullness than you'd expect from a bookshelf speaker. On matching stands it becomes a compact High-End alternative to a floorstander.
Sound & drivers
A 16 cm woofer with "Harmonious Diaphragm" (ZYLON + spruce) meets a 3 cm dome tweeter with R.S. Chamber. The same diaphragm technology as in the NS-5000 and NS-2000A ensures a coherent, natural tonal character. The crossover frequency sits at 2.6 kHz.
Twisted Flare Port & premium parts
Yamaha's Twisted Flare Port deliberately swirls the air at the reflex tube and reduces airflow noise – the result is clean, precise bass. The crossover uses Mundorf MCap SUPREME Classic capacitors, and the finish is genuine piano lacquer.
Straight talk – what you should know
At 86.5 dB, the NS-800A isn't a particularly loud speaker – it wants an amplifier with headroom. The large cabinet belongs on a stable, tall stand (the matching Yamaha SPS-800A is available separately) so the tweeter sits at ear height. Deep bass tapers off below 40 Hz – if you want home-cinema punch, add a subwoofer.

Frequently asked questions
Is the NS-800A sold as a pair?
Yes, the listed price is for a pair (two speakers) in piano black lacquer.
Do I need stands?
Recommended – it performs best with the tweeter at ear height. The Yamaha SPS-800A is a matching stand.
What's the difference between the NS-800A and the NS-600A?
The NS-800A has a larger cabinet and a 16 cm woofer (instead of 13 cm), so it plays more voluminous and deeper.
Is the bass enough without a subwoofer?
For music in normal rooms, yes; for home-cinema effects, we recommend adding a subwoofer.
Why buy the NS-800A at HD Zürisee?
Because a bookshelf speaker of this size needs a stable, tall stand and an amplifier with headroom – we tune exactly that to your room at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil. Our technician Mauri also advises on whether adding a subwoofer for deep bass makes sense.
