Yamaha NS-2000A – 3-way floorstanding speaker with piano technology
The NS-2000A is Yamaha's bridge between affordable High-End and the flagship NS-5000. A 3-way floorstanding speaker with four drivers that brings the NS-5000's diaphragm, resonance and cabinet technology into a more affordable enclosure – with the same honest goal: reproducing the instrument the way it sounded in the room.
Sound & drivers
Two 16 cm cone woofers, an 8 cm dome midrange and a 3 cm dome tweeter – all made from the "Harmonious Diaphragm" of ZYLON and spruce. Using the same diaphragm material across all ways ensures a consistent tonal character with no audible transitions. The midrange covers the voice- and speech-critical range from 750 Hz to 3.5 kHz in one piece.
Resonance control instead of damping wool
Instead of classic damping material, the patented R.S. Chambers (Resonance Suppression) behind the tweeter and midrange, along with the Acoustic Absorber inside the cabinet, do the job. This keeps the rear of the diaphragm clean and reduces standing waves without swallowing the sound. The crossover uses Mundorf MCap SUPREME Classic capacitors, and the terminals are solid brass.

With an 88 dB sensitivity and an impedance dropping to 3.5 Ω, the NS-2000A wants a powerful, load-stable amplifier – on a weak unit it plays below its potential. The rear bass reflex port needs some distance from the wall, and the piano lacquer is gorgeous but shows dust and fingerprints. A speaker for people who give it space, power and good recordings.
