Yamaha A-S301 – Integrated Amplifier with Built-in DAC
The A-S301 is Yamaha's honest entry point into the ToP-ART amplifier line: a classic stereo integrated amplifier with a clean analog section and – unlike the smaller A-S201 – a built-in DAC for your TV and Blu-ray player. A sensible first integrated amplifier that brings turntable, CD and TV sound together.
Sound & Amplification
2× 60 W at 8 ohms (0.019% THD), with dynamic headroom up to 150 W at 2 ohms – enough control for the vast majority of bookshelf and floorstanding speakers. The ToP-ART construction with symmetrical I/O direct switching and the torsion-resistant ART Base bottom plate keep interference and vibration out of the signal path. Pure Direct bypasses all tone controls for the shortest possible signal path.
Digital & Sources
Via the optical and coaxial digital inputs, the built-in DAC converts up to 192 kHz/24-bit – optical for your TV, coaxial for the Blu-ray player. For vinyl there's an MM phono input, plus four line RCA inputs and a subwoofer output. Via the A/B speaker terminals you run two speaker pairs or wire bi-wire. The stepless loudness control keeps the sound balanced even at low volumes.
Straight talk – what you should know
The A-S301 is a pure amplifier with digital inputs – no streaming, no Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth and no USB. If you want Spotify, Qobuz & co. built directly into the device, the R-N600A network receiver is the better fit. The phono input is designed for MM cartridges; MC cartridges need an additional step-up transformer. And the speaker terminals ship with plastic caps in place – for banana plugs you'll need to pop them off first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Yamaha A-S301 have a DAC?
Yes. Via the optical and coaxial digital inputs, the built-in DAC converts up to 192 kHz/24-bit – intended for your TV and Blu-ray player.
Can I connect a turntable?
Yes, via the built-in MM phono input. For MC cartridges you need an additional preamp or step-up transformer.
Can the A-S301 stream?
No. It has no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB. For built-in streaming the Yamaha R-N600A is the right choice.
What's the difference to the A-S201?
The A-S301 has ToP-ART circuitry, an ART Base chassis, digital inputs with DAC, a subwoofer output and stepless loudness control. The A-S201 is the purely analog entry point without digital inputs.
Why buy the A-S301 at HD Zürisee?
Because we've been able to judge since 1997 whether the A-S301 with its DAC is already enough, or whether streaming ambitions point more toward the R-N600A. We'll work out with you which turntable type matches the MM phono input, and set up the system on-site at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil if needed.
