Yamaha A-S201 – Honest Stereo Integrated Amplifier
The A-S201 is Yamaha's most affordable integrated amplifier – and exactly what it's meant to be: a solid, purely analog stereo amplifier with a phono input that makes music without any frills. Ideal as your first proper hi-fi amplifier stage for a turntable, CD player and bookshelf speakers.
Sound & Amplification
2× 100 W at 8 ohms (0.2% THD) – powerful enough for most bookshelf and compact floorstanding speakers. The short, symmetrically built signal path and the Pure Direct mode, which bypasses the tone controls, deliver a clear, unadulterated sound. A stepless loudness control balances the sound at low volumes.
Connections
Five inputs in total: an MM phono input for your turntable, plus four line RCA inputs for CD, tuner, streamer or an external DAC, along with a recording output. Via the A/B speaker terminals you run two speaker pairs or wire one speaker bi-wire. A headphone output sits up front. Standby consumption is just 0.5 W.
Straight talk – what you should know
The A-S201 is deliberately stripped back: no digital inputs, no DAC, no streaming and no Bluetooth – if you want to connect digital sources directly, go for the A-S301 (with DAC) or the R-N600A network receiver. The phono input is designed for MM cartridges. And the speaker terminals ship with plastic caps in place, which you need to pop off first for banana plugs. Under higher load with low-impedance speakers, the unit gets noticeably warm – but that's no issue at normal living-room volumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Yamaha A-S201 have a DAC or digital input?
No. The A-S201 is purely analog. Connect digital sources like a TV or Blu-ray player via the A-S301 with DAC, or an external converter.
Can I connect a turntable directly?
Yes, via the built-in MM phono input, including a ground screw. For MC cartridges you need an additional preamp.
Can I connect two speaker pairs?
Yes. Via the A/B terminals you connect two pairs, or wire one pair bi-wire.
Can the A-S201 stream or do Bluetooth?
No. For streaming and Bluetooth, the Yamaha R-N600A network receiver is the right choice.
