Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the X-40 and the X-25?

Cross-section and shielding. The X-40 has 4.0 instead of 2.5 square millimetres of conductor cross-section and double shielding braid. That means more reserves in current delivery and more resistance to interference. This is particularly worthwhile on amplifiers with a powerful power supply and on devices that draw current in bursts.

What connectors and lengths are available?

On the mains side, either Swiss Type J or EU Schuko, on the device side C15 in each case, available in 100 and 150 centimetres. For use with a Swiss socket or power strip, take Type J. C15 fits the C14 built-in sockets found on almost all hi-fi components.

Is the thick cable still manageable in the rack?

With some limitations. Four square millimetres plus double shielding results in a stiff cable with a large bending radius. If your device stands close to the wall or the socket is right behind it, it will be tight. Measure beforehand and plan for the bend, rather than kinking the cable.

Is the X-40 worthwhile on every device?

No. On a small streamer or DAC with low power consumption, these reserves simply aren't necessary – the X-25 is enough there. The X-40 shows its strengths on integrated amplifiers, power amps and mains filters – in other words, wherever a genuinely significant amount of current actually flows.

Why buy the ViaBlue X-40 from HD Zürisee?

Because the honest answer is sometimes "you don't need this" – and we give it to you too. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we look at which device actually calls for reserves, and plan the power distribution in the rack at the same time. Get in touch by phone, email or WhatsApp.
