The Technics SL-40CBT is a direct-drive turntable with a Bluetooth transmitter, a built-in, switchable phono preamp and a factory-fitted Audio-Technica AT-VM95C – ready to go for both wired and wireless listening.
In short: a genuine Technics direct drive in a compact, living-room-friendly cabinet – the bridge between vinyl and a wireless everyday life.
Why the SL-40CBT?
Because it combines Technics drive technology with modern convenience. Beneath the compact MDF cabinet works the coreless direct drive – stable, cogging-free, low-maintenance. The phono preamp is built in and switchable, the Audio-Technica cartridge is fitted at the factory. And via Bluetooth 5.4 (aptX Adaptive) you send your record wirelessly to active speakers or headphones. Anyone who claims wireless and vinyl don't mix simply hasn't tried the 40CBT yet.
What you hear
A surprisingly clean, stable sound for the entry class. The direct drive keeps speed rock steady, the factory-tuned phono path sounds clear and low-noise. Via cable you get the maximum out of it; via Bluetooth you gain freedom of placement, without vinyl losing its charm. For living rooms where looks and simplicity count, a very coherent package.
Who is the SL-40CBT suited for? (and who it isn't – plain talk)
Plain talk: The SL-40CBT is for beginners and anyone who wants to listen to vinyl in an uncomplicated, flexible way – happily wireless, happily integrated into a modern interior. Anyone seeking maximum sonic depth reaches for the SL-1500C or higher; and anyone who listens exclusively via Bluetooth doesn't get the very last bit out of a turntable – the cable output is the audiophile reserve, when you need it.
Our verdict
The SL-40CBT is a clever entry-level deck: genuine Technics direct drive, ready to go out of the box, plus Bluetooth for modern everyday life. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we show you how to integrate it optimally – by cable or wirelessly – and advise you on suitable speakers.

Frequently asked questions
How good is the Bluetooth sound on the SL-40CBT?
Thanks to Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Adaptive, the 40CBT transmits wirelessly in decent quality to compatible active speakers or headphones. You get the maximum via the cable output – Bluetooth gives you freedom of placement in return. Both paths are open to you at any time.
Do I need extra devices to play records?
No. The Audio-Technica AT-VM95C is factory-fitted and the phono preamp is built in. You connect the 40CBT by cable to a line input or active speaker – or wirelessly via Bluetooth. Getting started with vinyl is hardly ever simpler.
Can I upgrade it later?
Yes. The detachable headshell allows a cartridge change, and the switchable phono stage lets you use an external one later. So there's room to grow if the vinyl bug really bites – which, experience shows, often happens.
Why buy the SL-40CBT at HD Zürisee?
Because we make getting started easy and correct: we check the alignment, show you the Bluetooth and cable integration, and recommend suitable active or passive speakers. Questions? Call us (+41 44 680 22 00), send an email or a WhatsApp message – we're easy to reach.
Goes well with
Wirelessly, the 40CBT plays best with active bookshelf speakers; by cable a integrated amplifier with matching speakers is a good fit. Later, a look at a better cartridge is worthwhile – we'll show you what brings the most.
