The Technics SU-R1000 is a digital stereo integrated amplifier of the Reference Class that bundles digital sources, balanced XLR and line inputs, and an automatically calibrated phono stage in a single unit.
It's Technics' uncompromising answer to the question of how far a fully digital amplifier can be pushed – and the answer is impressive.
Why the SU-R1000?
Because it unites two worlds that rarely live under one roof: state-of-the-art digital technology and serious vinyl playback. The JENO Engine eliminates jitter for a time-accurate, calm sound image, while the extremely fast GaN-FET power stage (gallium nitride) keeps even demanding speakers effortlessly in check. LAPC measures your speakers' phase and amplitude response and corrects them. But the real trick lies in the phono stage: the ADCT equalizer (Accurate Dynamic Control for Cartridge) measures your cartridge and automatically corrects frequency response and crosstalk – a feat that hardly any other amplifier masters in this form.
What you hear
Control. The R1000 tracks transients in a flash and separates instruments cleanly, without ever seeming hectic. The bass is dry and authoritative, the soundstage sits precisely in the room. On a well-set-up turntable, the ADCT phono stage makes even ageing moving-coil cartridges bloom as if freshly aligned. Anyone who's been into hi-fi for a while recognises it immediately: this is someone working at reference level.
Who is the SU-R1000 suited for? (and who it isn't – plain talk)
Honestly: the R1000 is for anyone who wants the best of digital sources and vinyl in a single device and is prepared to invest in the reference class for it. What you should know: it doesn't have a built-in network streamer – you feed network music in via a separate streamer or the USB input. Anyone looking for a simple, affordable all-in-one solution is deliberately over-served here; a size smaller will do. For everyone else, it's a purchase for the next decade.
Our verdict
The SU-R1000 is an exceptional amplifier: technically bold, sonically mature, and simply in a class of its own on the subject of phono. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we listen closely to work out which speakers and which turntable exploit its potential – and set the whole thing up for you so it's right from day one. The specialist press sees it similarly:

Frequently asked questions
Can the SU-R1000 stream on its own?
No, the R1000 doesn't have a built-in network streamer. You connect digital sources via the optical, coaxial or USB-B input, for example a separate streamer or music server. This very separation lets you choose each component specifically at reference level.
Which cartridges does the phono input support?
Both MM and MC cartridges. The special feature is the ADCT equalizer: it measures the frequency response and crosstalk of your specific cartridge and automatically corrects them. This lets the R1000 draw a remarkably clean, balanced sound even from older or characterful cartridges.
Does the R1000 also drive demanding speakers?
Yes. With 2× 150 W at 8 Ω and the fast GaN-FET power stage, it controls most floorstanding speakers confidently and keeps control even in the bass. For very low-impedance or low-efficiency speakers, we're happy to advise whether and how it fits.
What's the included microphone for?
For calibration. LAPC uses it to measure your speakers and adapt the power stage, and ADCT uses it for cartridge correction. So you don't need any extra accessories – everything necessary is included, and on request we carry out the calibration together during installation.
Why buy the SU-R1000 at HD Zürisee?
Because a reference amplifier deserves a system that matches it – and advice that goes beyond the sale. We've been at home in high-end audio on Lake Zurich for almost three decades and tune speakers, turntable and cabling to the R1000. Our technician Mauri handles delivery, installation and the fine calibration on site.
Goes well with
The R1000 deserves serious partners: high-quality floorstanding speakers, a precise turntable with the right cartridge for the ADCT phono stage, and decent speaker cables. For network streaming, you add a separate streamer.
