The Technics SL-1210GR2 + Ortofon MC X30 set is a ready-to-play Grand Class direct-drive turntable, with the Ortofon MC X30 factory-mounted and aligned by us.
In short: unpack, set up, connect to an MC-capable phono stage – and play a record. No mounting, no aligning, no guessing whether the tracking force is right.
Why this set?
Because the SL-1210GR2 is one of the most sensible direct drives in its class – and the Ortofon MC X30 gives it the resolution that a coreless motor with ΔΣ-Drive control can easily pass through. The ironless direct drive runs without cogging, calm and stable in speed; the statically balanced S-tonearm guides the X30 cleanly through the groove. Instead of buying the deck and cartridge separately, mounting them yourself and setting the tracking force, you get a ready-tuned unit here – set up personally by Mauri.
What you hear
Fine resolution rather than just order. The direct drive keeps the speed so stable that notes stay firm and the bass doesn't wobble – the solid foundation Technics stands for. The MC X30 adds on top what makes a good moving-coil system: its Nude Fine Line diamond tracks more finely than an elliptical stylus, reads high frequencies more precisely and traces details that an MM system leaves behind. Because tracking force and alignment are already right when it leaves us, the combination sits perfectly from the very first groove.
Who is this set suited for? (and who it isn't – plain talk)
Plain talk: this set is for anyone who wants to step up from moving magnet to moving coil without aligning it themselves, and who wants the genuine Technics direct drive ready to play. Honestly: the MC X30 is a low-output MC system – you need an MC-capable phono stage or a step-up transformer ahead of an MM input; a plain MM input isn't enough. If you'd rather avoid that hurdle or keep the budget tighter, one of our 2M sets (MM) suits you better; if you want the resolution that MC brings, this is exactly right.
Our verdict
A well-rounded, ready-to-play package a step up: a solid Grand Class deck, a noticeably fine-resolving MC X30, all mounted and aligned. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil our technician Mauri sets the set up cleanly, recommends the right MC phono stage and delivers it fully ready to go on request.

Frequently asked questions
What's included in the SL-1210GR2 + Ortofon MC X30 set?
The Technics SL-1210GR2 direct-drive turntable and the Ortofon MC X30, factory-mounted and aligned by us. All you still need is an MC-capable phono stage and your system – the deck and cartridge are already fully matched to each other.
Do I need a special phono stage for the MC X30?
Yes. The MC X30 is a low-output moving-coil system with 0.4 mV output voltage – a plain MM input isn't enough. You need an MC-capable phono stage or a step-up transformer. We'll check your amplifier and tell you honestly what's still missing.
What sets the MC X30 apart from a 2M set?
The MC X30 is a moving-coil system with a Nude Fine Line diamond and resolves more finely than the moving-magnet systems in the 2M range – but it requires an MC-capable phono stage. If you're just starting out, a 2M set is often the easier choice.
Is the turntable already aligned?
Yes. Tracking force, anti-skating and the MC X30's alignment are already set by us before the set leaves us. You just need to unpack, set up and connect – no readjusting yourself.

Goes well with
What goes best with this is above all an MC-capable phono preamp (if your amplifier has no MC input), a clean phono cable, an integrated amplifier with fine finishing and matching bookshelf speakers. You'll find more systems under cartridges.
