The Sonoro Orchestra Shaped Signature is a three-way floorstanding speaker with an Air Motion Transformer, a dedicated midrange driver and two 5.25-inch woofers, voiced by Fink Audio Consulting. It's sonoro's first genuine three-way speaker – and the one with which the Neuss-based brand stakes its claim to affordable high-end.
Why the Orchestra Shaped Signature?
Because it brings together two things that rarely go together: design that's welcome in the living room, and a tuning backed by a name that guarantees it. The speaker was developed with Karl-Heinz Fink and Rainer Finck – in hi-fi circles not small talk, but a seal of quality. Instead of a two-way compromise, it splits the signal cleanly across three ways: two woofers for the foundation, a dedicated midrange driver for voices, and an AMT for the highs. The rearward-angled baffle ensures everything arrives at you time-aligned.
What you hear and get
Big, clean sound from a surprisingly slim cabinet. The Air Motion Transformer resolves the highs silkily and in rich detail, the dedicated midrange driver places voices clearly in the room, and the two 5.25-inch woofers reach down to 35 Hz – without you needing to add a subwoofer. The hand-sanded HDF cabinet with matte finish, flush-mounted drivers and aluminium details is made for the eye just as much as for the ear. Compared with its predecessor, the Grand Orchestra, it plays audibly more grown-up.
Who is the Orchestra Shaped Signature suited for – and who isn't it for?
For anyone who wants a full-fledged floorstanding speaker with high-end ambition that still sits discreetly in the room. It needs an amplifier with some substance (50 watts upward recommended, stable into 4 ohms) and a bit of breathing room from the wall. Straight talk: for a 12 m² student room, or for casual background listening via cheap Bluetooth, it's a shame – that would be a racing bike for waiting at the tram stop. Give it a decent source, and it shows what Fink tuning can do.
Our verdict
sonoro's most ambitious speaker to date – and one of the most exciting three-ways in its price class, precisely because of the Fink signature. Frequently asked questions
Is the Orchestra Shaped Signature a two-way or three-way system?
It's a genuine three-way system: two 5.25-inch woofers, a dedicated midrange driver and an AMT tweeter. Each range has its own driver, which separates voices and detail more cleanly than a two-way design. It's sonoro's first floorstanding speaker with this layout.
Which amplifier suits it?
An amplifier from around 50 watts that plays stable into 4 ohms is recommended. With 88 dB sensitivity it's not extremely demanding, but benefits from clean power. The Sonoro Maestro Quantum Signature is the in-house pairing; we're happy to advise you on alternatives from our range.
Do I need a subwoofer?
No, not in most rooms. The two woofers reach down to about 35 Hz and deliver a mature foundation. In very large rooms, or for home-cinema deep bass, a subwoofer can complement it – but for pure music enjoyment it's generally not necessary.
How much space do they need?
At around 18 cm wide, they stand slim, but need some distance from the rear wall so the bass stays controlled and the soundstage opens up. Rule of thumb: a few hand-widths of air behind them, angled slightly toward the listening position. We'll fine-tune the placement with you.
Is the Orchestra Shaped Signature sold individually or in pairs?
The listed price is per pair – you get both speakers for classic stereo in one delivery. What's in the box is set up accordingly too (two cabinets with feet, spikes and covers). If you need just a single speaker for a special reason, just ask us.
Why buy the Orchestra Shaped Signature from HD Zürisee?
