The Sangean WFR-28BT is a portable internet radio with DAB+, FM and Bluetooth that runs on batteries as happily on the terrace as in the kitchen.

Because it modernises the world-receiver idea: over Wi-Fi you reach more than 15,000 radio stations and podcasts, locally you receive DAB+ and FM with the extendable telescopic antenna, and via Bluetooth you play your phone. What you hear

A 3-inch driver with 3 watts sounds compact but surprisingly straight – voices on news radio are intelligible, music is pleasant as long as you do not expect a concert hall. The colour display shows station and track, and the buttons sit where your fingers look for them. There is a dedicated headphone jack, and line-out and AUX-in let you integrate the radio into a system.

Run it from the power supply or on batteries: it takes four D cells and, at a good 850 grams, has enough weight not to blow away on the garden table.

Do I need a subscription for internet radio?

No. Internet radio, DAB+ and FM work without a subscription; the more than 15,000 stations cost nothing extra. You can also use streaming services such as Spotify if you are a customer anyway – they are an option, not a requirement.

Does the WFR-28BT also run without a power outlet?

Yes. The radio takes four D batteries (1.5 V) and runs on them without the power supply. A battery indicator in the display shows the charge level. For permanent use at home, simply plug in the power supply.

Which colours does the WFR-28BT come in?
