Sangean DCR-83 DAB+ Clock Radio with Bluetooth, Black

The Sangean DCR-83 is a DAB+/FM clock radio with Bluetooth, an AUX input and a Sound Soother function whose 27 nature sounds and soundscapes help you fall asleep.

In black the DCR-83 disappears into the dark – exactly where an alarm clock is best off at night, without dazzling you.

Why the DCR-83?

Because it adds to the clock radio what restful sleep needs: 27 Sound Soother sounds such as rain or ocean waves mask disturbing noise – helpful with snoring partners, shift work and noisy neighbours. On top come DAB+ and FM with 40 presets (20 × DAB+, 20 × FM), Bluetooth 5.0 and an AUX input for everything that cannot do wireless.

Two alarm times – with radio or buzzer –, snooze, sleep and nap timers and a USB port for charging your phone keep the bedside table tidy.

What you hear

A 2-inch speaker with 5 watts is enough for radio, podcasts and the Sound Soother sounds in the bedroom. A loudness switch gives the sound a little more fullness at low volume. The colour display with adjustable brightness can be dimmed at night.

The time sets itself from the broadcast signal. On the headphone output you listen without waking your partner.

Who is the DCR-83 for?

For anyone who wants radio, alarm and sleep aid in one unit – from the shift worker to the light sleeper. Plain talk: the Sound Soother is no substitute for a doctor if sleep problems are serious, and the small speaker is no replacement for a music system. It has no internet radio either; if you want that, look at the larger tabletop radios.

Our verdict

An alarm clock that is also a radio, a Bluetooth speaker and a sleep aid – in unobtrusive black. HD Zürisee in Wädenswil is happy to advise whether the DCR-83 or another model suits your bedroom better.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Sound Soother function?

The Sound Soother plays 27 preinstalled sounds such as raindrops or ocean waves. They mask disturbing ambient noise and help many people fall asleep. You choose the sound on the unit and combine it with the sleep timer so that it switches off by itself.

Can I connect external devices?

Yes. The AUX input plays sources without Bluetooth, such as an old MP3 player. With Bluetooth 5.0 you pair a phone or tablet. The USB port (5 V / 1 A) also charges your smartphone. No subscription or internet is needed for any of this.

Is the DCR-83 also available in white?

Yes. Besides black, we also carry the DCR-83 in white. Technology and sound are identical; only the cabinet colour differs. Black suits dark furniture and dazzles less at night, white looks brighter and suits light bedrooms.
