The Revival Audio Atalante 3 is a compact 2-way high-end bookshelf speaker that brings high-end sound into a shelf-friendly format with a basalt mid-woofer and ARID tweeter.

Revival Audio, the manufacturer from Alsace, made its debut with the Atalante series in 2021 – developed by acoustician Daniel Emonts, who previously helped shape flagship models at Focal and Dynaudio, and designed by the Parisian studio A+A Cooren. Belt-and-knot line, laser-engraved logo, hand-selected veneer: the Atalante 3 wants to be heard and looked at. Both are worth it.

Why the Atalante 3?

At its heart is a 180 mm mid-woofer with a basalt sandwich cone (BSC) – real volcanic rock, stiff and well-damped, delivering a fast, contoured bass down to 44 Hz that you wouldn't expect from such a compact cabinet. The treble is handled by a 28 mm fabric dome with an ARID chamber, which absorbs most of the rear-facing sound instead of reflecting it back into the diaphragm – keeping the highs clean and relaxed. The tweeter sits deliberately off-centre: you can set up the two speakers as mirror images and optimise the stage for your listening position.

What you hear

High-end in a small format. The Atalante 3 plays noticeably bigger than it looks – with a vivid, wide-open stage where voices and instruments stand cleanly separated. The basalt bass is dry and precise rather than bloated, and the highs stay refined even as it gets louder. If you listen to jazz, acoustic music or well-produced pop, you get a wealth of detail and spatiality that's hard to match at this size. Who is the Atalante 3 suited for?

For rooms of around 15 to 35 m² and anyone who wants real high-end sound without putting a floorstander in the living room. Straight talk: with 87 dB sensitivity and a minimum impedance of 4.4 ohms, the Atalante 3 isn't a walk in the park – it wants a strong, stable amplifier that's happy delivering from 50 watts up. On a mini amp, its potential goes to waste. And a lightweight sideboard is the wrong spot: at 11 kg per unit, it belongs on a heavy stand, otherwise the energy goes into the furniture instead of the room. Get that right, and you're rewarded with one of the best bookshelf speakers in its class.

What amplifier does the Revival Audio Atalante 3 need?
A strong, stable stereo amplifier. 30 watts is the minimum, and it really opens up from around 50 to 100 watts into 8 ohms. Because the impedance drops to 4.4 ohms, the amplifier should drive low loads cleanly. On a weak unit, its potential goes unused.

Does the Atalante 3 need speaker stands?
Yes, strongly recommended. As a bookshelf speaker, it sounds best on a heavy, decoupled stand at ear height – freer, more precise, with a stable stage. What room size suits the Atalante 3?

What's the difference between the Atalante 3 and the Sprint 3?
Both are 2-way bookshelf speakers with related technology, but the Atalante 3 is the higher-grade model: better components, a more elaborate cabinet, a finer finish – and roughly double the price. The Sprint 3 brings much of that sonic culture into a more affordable class.

Can I use the tweeter offset?
Yes. The tweeter sits off-centre, so the two speakers can be set up as mirror images – tweeters facing inward or outward. Inward-facing tweeters focus the stage, outward-facing ones widen it. Try both in your room and see what you prefer.
