The REL T-9x is an active-passive subwoofer from the T Series (active 10" front + passive 10" down-firing, FibreAlloy), REL's entry- and mid-level range for music and home cinema systems, driven by a Class A/B amplifier. It's built for musicality rather than sheer loudness.
Why the REL T-9x?
The T Series is REL's "little brother" to the flagship S Series – built on the same principle, but with more compact dimensions and prices. The T-9x uses an active 10" driver up front plus a passive 10" driver below, in FibreAlloy, driven by a Class A/B amplifier, which according to REL delivers a fast, musical attack rather than a sluggish cinema thump.
What you hear
Instead of pushing itself to the front with loud, imprecise bass, the T-9x complements your main speakers through the high-level input like a third, deep voice in the sound picture. Bass lines, kick drums and film scores get noticeably more foundation, without the subwoofer standing out as a sound source of its own.
Who is the REL T-9x suited for?
The T-9x suits music listeners with small to medium speakers who want tangible but controlled depth, as well as combined music/home-cinema rooms. Honestly: anyone in a large room chasing loud home cinema above all is better off with the HT Series or a larger T or S model – the T-9x is tuned for precision, not maximum level.
Our verdict
The REL T-9x shows why REL has been the reference for musical subwoofers for decades: fast, controlled bass instead of boom. For its price and size class, one of the most honest recommendations in the range.

Frequently asked questions
How do you connect the REL T-9x correctly?
Best via the supplied high-level Speakon connection, straight to your amplifier's speaker outputs – that keeps the subwoofer sonically closer to the character of your main speakers than a pure LFE input would.
What room size is the T-9x designed for?
The T-9x is designed for small to medium rooms. For larger rooms, we recommend a larger T model or stepping up to the S Series.
Can I combine two REL T-9x units?
Yes, two subwoofers in stereo or dual-mono operation give more even bass reproduction across the room and are explicitly supported by REL – get in touch if you're interested, we'll advise you on positioning.
Why buy the REL T-9x from HD Zürisee?
