The Rega Fono Mini A2D is a compact phono preamplifier for moving-magnet cartridges with a built-in USB output, letting you digitise your records on a computer.
It connects your turntable to any amplifier – and archives your vinyl treasures as a file too, if you like.
Why the Fono Mini A2D?
The circuit is based on the larger Fono MM, distilled to the essentials: genuine Rega genes in a small box. The MM gain stage cleanly raises your cartridge's quiet signal to line level, the extruded aluminium chassis shields against interference, and the USB output lets you record directly on a PC or Mac. A level control on the front lets you set recording levels cleanly.
What you hear
For the price, there's a surprising amount of genuine Rega character in here: warm, punchy, pleasantly low-noise. No frills, just an honest workhorse that brings your turntable to life on any AUX input.
Who is the Fono Mini A2D for?
Ideal for beginners and anyone reviving an old turntable while digitising their collection on the side. Straight talk: if you expect the huge soundstage and fine resolution of a four-figure phono stage, you'll hit limits here – it's a solid all-rounder, not a miracle worker. And it's designed exclusively for MM cartridges; the gain isn't enough for MC cartridges. Workshop tip: when recording, only turn the level control up far enough that the loudest passages just avoid hitting the red.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a special driver for USB recording?
No. Windows and macOS recognise the Fono Mini A2D as a standard audio device. You can start right away with free programs like Audacity and record your records – with no additional software purchase needed.
What cables do I need to connect it?
For the system, a standard RCA cable: turntable to the input, amplifier to the output. For recording you'll also need a USB cable to the computer, sold separately.
Can I leave the unit permanently connected to power?
Yes, it's designed for continuous operation and uses very little power at idle. Since it has no power switch of its own, we recommend a switchable power strip for longer breaks.
