The Rega Carbon Stylus is the original replacement needle for the Rega Carbon cartridge and restores your Planar 1 or Planar 2 to full playback quality. A worn diamond doesn't just sound worse, it also stops being gentle on your records – this stylus brings both back.
Why the Carbon Stylus?
Because it's the simplest and most affordable way to bring a Rega Carbon cartridge back to its former glory. The carbon cantilever is stiffer than plain plastic and keeps vibration losses low, the spherical grind tracks robustly and forgivingly, and the tool-free click-fit swap saves you removing and realigning the cartridge. An original part, matched exactly to the Carbon body.
What you hear
That fresh, lively Rega sound, just like on day one: crisp, controlled bass, clear mids, and tracking that stays composed even on slightly rougher pressings. Especially with used records, the spherical grind shows its strength – it's less prone to surface noise than sharper stylus shapes.
Who is the Carbon Stylus for? (and who it isn't – straight talk)
For any owner of a Rega Planar 1 or Planar 2 with the Carbon cartridge whose stylus is worn or damaged. Straight talk: this isn't an upgrade – it's the original replacement that restores factory condition. If you want more resolution and finer detail, skip the stylus and move straight to a higher-tier cartridge like the Rega Nd3.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to readjust anything after changing the stylus?
Usually not. Since this is an original part with identical weight, the tracking force stays the same. We still recommend briefly checking that the scale still reads 2.5 g, in case something has shifted on the tonearm.
When should I replace the Carbon stylus?
A diamond typically lasts around 500 to 800 hours of use. If the highs start sounding sibilant or the bass loses its punch, it's time for a replacement – also to avoid excess record wear. If in doubt, we'll take a look at the stylus under magnification for you.
How do I replace the stylus correctly?
Tool-free: grip the stylus insert from the sides and pull it gently forward and down, then push the new stylus in the reverse way until it clicks audibly into place. No force needed, but a bit of confidence helps. Not sure? Come by the shop and we'll do it with you.
Why buy the Rega Carbon Stylus at HD Zürisee?
Because we stock original replacement styli and tell you honestly whether a stylus swap is worthwhile or an upgrade makes more sense. We're happy to handle the swap, check the tracking force, and advise you – in person, on Lake Zurich in Wädenswil.
