The Rega Nd3 is an MM cartridge with a bonded elliptical diamond on an aluminium cantilever, which Rega recommends for the Planar 2 and Planar 3.
The Nd3 replaces the older Elys-2-like range with a newer generation of stylus profile and coil construction, and is regarded as one of the best entry-level MM cartridges in its price class – a calm sonic background, clean timing, typically Rega.
Sonically they're very close, the Nd3 is the technically newer design with a somewhat calmer background. For new purchases we generally recommend the Nd3.
Which tonearm is the Nd3 designed for?
Rega recommends the Nd3 for the RB220 tonearm of the Planar 2 and the RB330 tonearm of the Planar 3, but thanks to the 3-point mounting it runs on all current Rega tonearms.
