Rega Elys 2 MM Cartridge

The Rega Elys 2 is an MM cartridge with an elliptical diamond stylus, which Rega recommends for the Planar 2 and Planar 3.

Compared to the Carbon, the Elys 2's elliptical cut delivers noticeably more fine detail and soundstage resolution, without making alignment or handling any more complicated. For most Planar 2 and Planar 3 owners, it's the obvious first upgrade step before moving toward moving coil.

Mechanically yes, but sonically it's better suited to the Planar 2 or Planar 3 with an RB220/RB330 tonearm, which is what Rega tuned it for.

Do I need a new phono preamp for the Elys 2?

No, the Elys 2 is a classic MM cartridge and runs on your amplifier's existing MM phono input, or on an MM phono stage like the Rega Fono MM MK5.
