The Raidho TD4.8 is a large 3-way floorstanding speaker from the Danish high-end manufacturer Raidho, combining two Tantalum-Diamond midrange drivers, six Tantalum-Diamond woofers and the in-house ribbon tweeter in a slim cabinet.

It's one of the top models in the TD series and represents what Raidho builds by hand in Pandrup when cost-cutting stays out of the picture. A speaker for anyone who's stopped asking whether it can get better – and instead asks how close you can still get to the original.

Why the Raidho TD4.8?

The "TD" stands for Tantalum-Diamond: Raidho coats its ceramic-aluminium diaphragms with an ultra-thin layer of tantalum and diamond. The result is a diaphragm roughly 50 times stiffer than pure ceramic, cutting resonances by around 36 dB – the hardness and harshness you'd otherwise eventually perceive as fatigue simply disappears. This level of effort is reserved for the top models, because the process can neither be sped up nor made cheaper.

Add to that the handmade ribbon tweeter – a foil many times lighter than a classic dome, and correspondingly effortless in following the highest tones. The large, adjustable feet with ceramic ball decoupling – a hallmark of the TD series – keep the speaker perfectly steady and extract the last bit of precision from the bass foundation.

What you hear

A soundstage that detaches itself from the speaker, and a resolution where instruments aren't just "there" but stand in the room as physical bodies. The TD4.8 separates voices and instruments so cleanly that you rarely have to think about what's playing – you simply hear it. With genuine 90 dB sensitivity it's remarkably undemanding at the same time: you choose your amplifier for its sound, not its wattage. And "just a quick listen" is a plan that rarely survives this speaker.

Who is the Raidho TD4.8 suited for?

For medium to large rooms, a high-quality amplifier chain, and listeners who prefer uncompromising resolution over the last decibel of level. Bottom line: the TD4.8 doesn't belong in a small living room, and it's not an impulse buy either – this is a deliberate, long-term decision. Anyone bringing space, serious electronics and the ambition of getting "as close as possible to the original" is exactly right here.

Our verdict

The TD4.8 was named "Cost-No-Object Loudspeaker of the Year 2018" by the British magazine Hi-Fi+ – and to this day remains one of the references others are measured against. For us, it's one of the most honest ways to get as close to a recording as you possibly can at home: no effect, no flattering, just the music. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we're happy to advise you on whether and how it fits your room and your system.

Frequently asked questions

What amplifier does the Raidho TD4.8 need?
Thanks to genuine 90 dB sensitivity and a forgiving load, the TD4.8 can be driven by many good amplifiers. Raidho recommends 50 to 300 watts. More important than raw power is the quality of the electronics – at HD Zürisee we'll help you find the right combination.

Does the Raidho TD4.8 fit in a normal living room?
The TD4.8 is a large floorstanding speaker and unfolds best in medium to large rooms. It's designed for near-wall placement and doesn't protrude excessively into the room. For small rooms there are more suitable Raidho models – just ask us.

What does Tantalum-Diamond mean at Raidho?
Tantalum-Diamond refers to the multi-layer diaphragm of Raidho's drivers. A ceramic-aluminium diaphragm is coated with tantalum and diamond, making it significantly stiffer and sharply reducing resonances. This lowers audible distortion and delivers the clean, detailed reproduction the TD series is known for.

What finishes is the Raidho TD4.8 available in?
At HD Zürisee the TD4.8 is available in Piano Black, in Walnut Burl (burl wood veneer), and as a custom finish in almost any lacquer you want. All variants are sonically identical – the choice is purely a matter of taste and interior design.
