The PMC Active Twenty5.22i is an active 2-way bookshelf speaker with a 6.5-inch woofer that combines internal amplification and an active crossover, doing away with a separate power amp.
The big brother of the bookshelf models – and a genuine powerhouse. If you want to fill a larger room with sound without reaching straight for a floorstander, the .22i offers exactly the mix of substance and footprint sense you're after.
Why the Active Twenty5.22i?
Because 6.5 inches of cone area, a longer ATL and two internal 100 W amps per cabinet deliver a low end that stays clean, clear and powerful – perfectly matched to the precision tweeter via the active crossover. You save yourself the amplifier stack and the cable clutter too: all you need is a source with volume control. The electronics inside the speaker take care of the rest.
What you hear
Agile, dynamic reproduction with decent depth down to 39 Hz. The .22i plays bigger than it looks, yet stays neutral and controlled. Voices are pinpointed in the room, the bass pushes without booming. The gain switch lets you match it to your source's sensitivity.
Who is the Active Twenty5.22i for – and who isn't it for?
For medium to larger rooms where a bookshelf speaker needs more authority without turning into a floorstanding column. Honestly: in very small rooms right against the wall it can be a bit much – the .21i is the smarter choice there. And if you're after maximum stage height and the last word in depth, look toward the .23i or .24i.
Our verdict
The most versatile of the two bookshelf models: enough power for everyday listening, compact enough for most rooms. If you think all-in-one means a sonic compromise, you simply haven't heard the .22i on a good source yet. Feel free to change your mind.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a power amp for the PMC Active Twenty5.22i?
No. With 2 × 100 W of active amplification per cabinet and an active crossover, everything's already on board. You just connect it to a source that controls the level – a preamp or a streamer with volume control, via XLR or RCA.
What's the difference between the Twenty5.21i and the .22i?
The .22i is the larger of the two bookshelf speakers: a 6.5-inch woofer instead of 5.5 inches, a longer ATL and depth down to 39 Hz. It fills larger rooms more effortlessly and powerfully. The .21i stays more compact and suits small to medium rooms better.
Does the Twenty5.22i fit on speaker stands or in a shelf?
Both work. Placed freely on its own stands you get the best out of the soundstage and bass; on a sideboard or console it works well too. What matters is some distance from the rear wall and a stable surface, so the ATL can fully unfold its depth.
