The Paradigm Defiance S10 is an active, sealed subwoofer with a 25 cm (10") aluminum driver, a 500-watt Class D amplifier, and built-in Anthem Room Correction (ARC). It delivers deep, controlled bass without eating up half your room — and it comes with its own wireless transmitter, so the cable to your system becomes optional rather than mandatory. In bright Satin White, it also blends elegantly into pretty much any room.

Why the Defiance S10?

Deep bass is the discipline where most systems quietly fall short. The S10 closes that gap: its satin-anodized pure-aluminum cone (S-PAL) sits in a sealed enclosure built for precision rather than showing off. Sealed means — short and honest — a bit less level-show than a ported design, but drier, faster bass in return. Exactly what music wants, and what good home cinema wants anyway. A 64-bit DSP doles out the 500 watts carefully instead of just blasting them out.

What you'll hear

Bass that pushes without booming. The S10 reaches down to 18 Hz — deep enough that you'll feel the lowest organ registers and the rumble of a movie explosion more than you hear them. In stereo use, it supports large floorstanders just as well as compact bookshelf speakers that would otherwise bow out early down low. And because ARC measures the room and smooths out the typical bass humps, the result at the listening seat sounds tidy instead of "something's booming somewhere".

Who's the Defiance S10 for? (and who isn't it for — straight talk)

Ideal for small to medium rooms that want deep, precise bass without a piece-of-furniture-sized subwoofer in the way. If you want to round out stereo musically at the bottom end or give a 5.1 home cinema a clean foundation, this is your subwoofer. Straight talk: if you want to fill a big hall with enough level to flap your trouser legs, reach for the S12 or go straight for the X15 — the S10 is the elegant precision player, not the jackhammer.

Our verdict

The Defiance S10 is the sensible entry point into serious Paradigm bass: compact, app-controlled, room-corrected, and flexibly placed thanks to its included wireless transmitter. A subwoofer that does its job and otherwise stays out of the picture — and in Satin White it does so especially discreetly. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, we'll tune it to your room and your speakers with you.

Frequently asked questions

What room size suits the Paradigm Defiance S10?
Small to medium living rooms, roughly up to about 25 m². There, the 25 cm driver with 500 watts delivers deep, controlled bass with reserves to spare. In very large rooms, or for pure level-chasing, the bigger S12 is the better choice. ARC room correction gets the acoustic optimum out of any room.

Does the Defiance S10 need a separate wireless module?
No. Unlike the older X series, the wireless receiver is already built in and the matching transmitter is included. So you can connect the sub to your amplifier or AV receiver without running a long RCA cable across the room. A wired connection naturally remains possible too.

What does Anthem Room Correction (ARC) do for the subwoofer?
ARC measures how your room distorts the bass and smooths out the typical boom and cancellation zones. The result is even, clean bass at the listening seat instead of a frequency response left to chance. The measurement microphone is sold separately, and setup runs conveniently through the Paradigm app.

Is the S10 suited to music, or just home cinema?
Both. The sealed enclosure delivers the fast, dry bass that music needs, and in home cinema it supports the foundation under the movie effects. Through the app you set volume, crossover, and phase to suit — one profile for relaxed music listening, another for movie night when the bottom end is allowed to rumble.
