The Ortofon Stylus D25M is a special stylus for mono microgroove records – for collectors who want to hear mono pressings from the 1950s and 60s the way they were originally meant to sound.
Why this replacement stylus?
Early mono microgroove records have a different groove geometry than later stereo pressings. A larger spherical tip with a 1 mil radius (25 µm) tracks the groove at the point with less wear from decades of playback with stereo styli – this reduces noise and brings back bass and clarity noticeably.
Who it's for (in plain terms)
For anyone with a sizeable mono collection from the 50s and 60s. For pure stereo collections, this stylus isn't the right choice.
Technical Data
- Stylus shape: spherical, R 25 µm (1 mil), for mono microgroove records
- Compatible with: Super OM, OM, OMP, TM and Concorde systems
- Mounting: plug-in stylus replacement, no tools needed
