Does the Stylus 2M Red fit my 2M or 2MR Red?

Yes. The Stylus 2M Red fits the 2M Red and the 2MR Red (Rega) – the generator is identical. Within the 2M Red / 2M Blue group, the styli are interchangeable, so you can also upgrade to a Blue stylus.

Is the Stylus 2M Blue worth it instead of a plain replacement?

If you're a serious listener: yes. The Blue has a nude elliptical diamond, which tracks more finely and sounds calmer. Since the Red and Blue bodies use the same generator, a pure stylus swap is enough – you don't need a new cartridge.

When do I need to replace the stylus?

Ortofon states around 1,000 playing hours for the 2M series. If the sound gets rougher, the highs get sibilant, or the stylus skips, it's due for a change. A worn tip damages the groove – when in doubt, swap it earlier rather than later. Dry brushing from back to front keeps it cleaner for longer.
