The Ortofon MC Verismo is an uncompromising moving-coil cartridge from the Exclusives series, with a nude Replicant 100 diamond on a diamond cantilever and a 3D-printed SLM titanium body.

Why the MC Verismo?

“Verismo” stands for realism — and that's exactly the program here. The diamond cantilever transmits the finest information at the highest speed, the rigid SLM titanium body damps internally and keeps the background pitch black. The three-point mount couples the cartridge mechanically and stably to the tonearm, so dynamics come through unrestrained.

What you'll hear

An unvarnished, high-resolution reproduction with explosive dynamics and authentic textures: instruments sound tangible and real, the soundstage opens up deep and stable. The Verismo doesn't flatter — it shows the recording exactly as it is.

Who is the MC Verismo for — and who isn't it for?

For listeners with a neutral, high-quality system who want maximum truth instead of a rosy picture. Bottom line: if your system already tends toward sibilance in the treble, the Verismo makes that more audible, not better — it's a magnifying glass, not a soft-focus filter. For a deliberately “warm”-tuned problem system, it's the wrong choice.

Our verdict

The MC Verismo is for anyone who's had enough of “hi-fi sound” and wants the unfiltered emotion of a recording. Magnificent on a neutral reference system — mercilessly honest on a nervous one.

What the specialist press says: “…the Verismo's refinement rivals MCs at twice the price… It is nothing short of sensational.” – Hi-Fi News (Ken Kessler, 2022), “Outstanding Product” award.

Frequently asked questions

Will the MC Verismo fit my high-end turntable?

At 9.5 g and with moderate compliance, the Verismo fits most current high-end tonearms. What matters is that the arm and phono stage can pass through its resolution too. It's best if we work out together whether your system can do that.

Is a diamond cantilever really better than boron?

Diamond is harder and stiffer than boron and transmits impulses even faster and with less loss. The result is more detail, depth and directness. You'll only hear the difference, though, on an accordingly high-quality, cleanly matched system.

Why buy the Ortofon MC Verismo at HD Zürisee?

Because such an honest system needs the right environment. We'll tell you openly whether your system is neutral enough, mount and align the Verismo precisely and support you with matching and service — so that truth becomes music, not harshness.

Goes well with

Goes well with: a high-quality phono preamp, a matching turntable and other cartridges to compare.
