The Ortofon Concorde Music Bronze is the crossing into High-End territory for the Concorde line: an MM cartridge with a bare Fine Line stylus in a plug-and-play housing that tracks the groove more finely than any model below it.

From here, "practical and good" becomes "practical and genuinely great": the Fine Line grind pulls refinement out of the groove that would normally demand a lot more alignment patience elsewhere.

Why the Concorde Music Bronze?

The jump from Blue to Bronze is the switch from elliptical to Fine Line grinding. A Fine Line stylus has a narrower, longer contact area and sits closer to the shape the groove was originally cut with. That means: more information out of the groove, less distortion in the highs, cleaner inner grooves. In the same housing with the same quad-coil generator and silver-plated coils – plug-and-play like the whole line.

What you hear

Compared with the Blue, the Bronze steps up in refinement: highs resolve more airily, space and depth staging become more tangible, and demanding, heavily modulated passages – string tutti, choirs – stay clean where an elliptical stylus starts to harden. Bass and fundamentals stay warm and controlled. This is the point where the Concorde stops being merely a good plug-and-play system and starts being a High-End cartridge that also happens to be practical. StereoNET credited the Bronze in January 2025 with a refined yet engaging sound and surprisingly deep insight into the recording – and awarded it the Applause Award.

Who is the Concorde Music Bronze suited for?

For anyone with a decent S-tonearm turntable and a chain that actually passes resolution through – a well-aligned Technics SL-1200 or comparable. Straight talk: on an entry-level deck and with a basic phono preamp, part of the Fine Line advantage evaporates; the Blue is enough there. But if you want to get the most out of Concorde's convenience without jumping straight to the Black's Shibata grind, this is exactly right.

Our verdict

The crossing into High-End: bare Fine Line stylus, more refinement and spatiality than the Blue, all with the familiar plug-and-play comfort. Not for nothing did the Bronze take 1st place among cartridges up to €500 in the 2025 Golden Ear reader poll (Audio/stereoplay) and also picked up the StereoNET Applause Award. For ambitious listeners with a chain that shows it off too.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Fine Line grind offer over elliptical?

A Fine Line stylus has a narrower, longer contact area and sits closer to the shape of the original cutting stylus. It pulls more information out of the groove, distorts less in the highs, and handles the problematic inner grooves more cleanly than an elliptical grind.

What distinguishes the Concorde Music Bronze from the Black?

Same housing, same quad-coil generator. The Bronze has a bare Fine Line stylus, the Black a bare Shibata. Shibata comes even closer to the cutting stylus and delivers still more high-frequency energy and finer transients. If you already own a Bronze, you upgrade to the Black with a simple stylus swap.

Which turntable suits the Concorde Music Bronze?

A good fit is an S-tonearm turntable with a bayonet mount and a chain that passes resolution through – for example a properly aligned Technics SL-1200 or comparable. Clicked in tool-free, ready to play instantly. Straight tonearms with a standard headshell (Rega, Pro-Ject) need a Concorde adapter, and a good phono preamp pays off noticeably with the Fine Line.

Why buy the Concorde Music Bronze from HD Zürisee?

Because we've lived High-End for a good three decades and give you an honest assessment of whether your chain even makes the Fine Line advantage audible – or whether the Blue is plenty. No sales pressure, instead an open recommendation, and if you'd like, Mauri aligns the system properly on your tonearm.

Goes well with

An upper-class turntable, a phono preamp that also passes the Fine Line advantage through, and more cartridges from the range all go well with it.
