Ortofon 2MR bronze MM Cartridge for Rega

The Ortofon 2MR bronze is a moving magnet cartridge with a nude Fine Line stylus, whose housing is built for the three-point mounting of Rega tonearms. It brings the technology of the highly regarded 2M Bronze into the narrow, lightweight 6-gram body made specifically for Rega.

The Bronze's Fine Line stylus already plays close to the flagship Black – and with the 2MR bronze you hang exactly that level onto a Rega, without wrestling with spacers or mounting height.

Why the 2MR bronze?

The nude Fine Line stylus tracks the groove more finely and deeply than an elliptical one – that brings more treble resolution, cleaner tracking in critical passages and more calm. The silver-plated copper winding does the rest. In the 2MR housing, all of it sits perfectly on the Rega arm: light, narrow, no spacer.

How much better is the 2MR bronze than the 2MR blue?

The nude Fine Line stylus audibly resolves more finely and stays more composed in tricky inner grooves than the Blue's elliptical one. Whether the step is worth it depends heavily on the amplifier and speakers – clearly so on a resolving chain, less on a simple one. We'll audition it with you and give you an honest read.

What's the difference between the 2MR bronze and the standard 2M Bronze?

Only in the mounting, not the sound. The 2MR bronze sits in the narrow 6-gram Rega body with three-point mounting, the 2M Bronze uses the usual half-inch mounting with two screws. Fine Line stylus, silver-plated winding and tracking behaviour are identical – you choose the body your tonearm mechanically requires.
