The NAD C268 is a stereo power amplifier that draws 2× 80 watts from a proven Hypex UcD Class-D stage – and can be switched to a mono power amp with 300 watts via a switch. That makes it the flexible power reserve for systems with a separate preamp or streaming preamp.

At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, the C268 is our classic for anyone who wants more power without going all the way to the Masters league – an honest power amplifier from NAD's Classic Series.

Why the NAD C268?

NAD has been building power amplifiers that punch above their price class for decades – the C268 is exactly such a case. A generously sized power supply (about 200 watts continuous load), NAD's PowerDrive circuit and the Hypex UcD output stage deliver plenty of current for difficult speakers, plus practically inaudible noise. Balanced XLR and RCA inputs make it an uncomplicated partner for high-quality preamps.

What you hear

Calm and control. The C268 grips speakers firmly, stays composed even at higher levels, and keeps voices and instruments cleanly layered. No effect, no gilding the lily – just power that adds nothing of its own to the signal.

Who is the NAD C268 for?

For anyone with an active preamp or a streaming preamp like the NAD C658 who needs more power – or wants to drive their speakers via bi-amping. If the system grows, you add a second C268 as a monoblock later. Bottom line: the C268 is a pure power amplifier – no volume control, no DAC, no tone controls. Without a preamp it stays silent. If you want everything in one chassis, go for the NAD C3050 or C399.

Our verdict

A giant-killer in the best sense: lots of clean, controlled power at a fair price, with the monoblock upgrade as an open door for later. If you want to specifically add power to your chain, the C268 is spot on.

Frequently asked questions

Does the NAD C268 need a preamplifier?
Yes. The C268 is a pure power amplifier with no volume control. It needs a preamp or streaming preamp like the NAD C658 or any other preamp with an RCA or XLR output.

Can the C268 be bridged as a mono power amplifier?
Yes. In bridged mode it delivers up to 300 watts into 8 ohms as a monoblock. For stereo you run two C268s as monoblocks – ideal for confidently driving demanding floorstanding speakers.

Is the C268 suitable for bi-amping?
Yes. Via its two channels, suitable speakers can be actively driven via bi-amping. We're happy to work out with you which configuration makes sense for your setup.
