The Line Magnetic LM-32CD is a tube CD player with a tube output stage and an additional USB input for the computer.

Why the LM-32CD?

CD players with a genuine tube output stage have become rare – Line Magnetic sticks with it and adds a USB input to the classic CD transport, which also makes the LM-32CD usable as a digital source from a computer.

What you hear

A sound with typical tube warmth, backed up by solid measured figures – 0.0025% THD and over 110 dB signal-to-noise ratio. The tube colours the sound subtly here rather than heavy-handedly.

Who is the LM-32CD for? (and who it isn't)

For anyone who still listens to physical CDs, or who has digitized their collection and wants to play it back over USB. Straight talk: if you only stream, you don't need a CD player – then we'd rather advise you toward a suitable streaming device.

Our verdict

A CD player that carries its tube in more than just its name.

Frequently asked questions

Can I also use the LM-32CD as a DAC from my computer?

Yes, via the rear USB input it can also be driven as a digital source from a computer.

Does it have an adjustable output?

No, the output level is fixed. It absolutely needs a preamp or integrated amplifier with its own volume control downstream.

Can I connect headphones directly?

No, there's no headphone output.

XLR or RCA – which is better?

Both outputs are available. XLR is particularly suited to longer, balanced cable runs and is less sensitive to interference.
