The Lavardin ISx is a fully analogue integrated amplifier from France built around the manufacturer's patented Memory-Free circuit. No DAC, no streaming, no display – instead, a circuit concept that has barely changed in over two decades, simply because it works.

Why the ISx?

Most amplifiers look similar on paper – power, distortion, damping factor. Lavardin deliberately ignores this numbers game and focuses on a problem hardly any datasheet captures: memory effects in transistor circuits that swallow fine musical detail. The result is a 2×50-watt amplifier that "disappears" more calmly than its wattage would suggest – and precisely because of that, it's been one of the most underrated amplifiers in its price class for years.

What you hear

The ISx plays fast, effortless, and with a naturalness usually attributed to pricier tube amplifiers – just without their compromises in control and bass. Voices stay tangible, cymbals don't fray into noise, and the music keeps its dynamics even at moderate room volume. If you've only known bright, clinical transistor amplifiers so far, this will make you pause: this is supposed to be solid-state technology?

Who is the ISx for? (and who isn't it for)

Ideal for anyone who wants to build a compact, uncomplicated stereo system with a turntable, CD player, or streaming preamp, and values musicality over feature lists. Straight talk: if you need network streaming, a remote control out of the box, or a built-in headphone output, you'll have to retrofit or choose a different model – in its base configuration, the ISx stays deliberately purist.

Our verdict

The ISx isn't an amplifier that boasts about wattage. It's the kind you buy, set up – and then forget about for ten years, because it just plays. Which, with respect, makes it one of the most honest integrated amplifiers currently passing through our shop.

Frequently asked questions

How much power does the Lavardin ISx deliver?

2× 50 watts at 8 ohms, up to 2× 104 watts at 2 ohms. That's easily enough for most bookshelf and compact floorstanding speakers – but with the ISx, how stably it controls even demanding impedance curves matters more than raw wattage.

Does the ISx have a phono input for a turntable?

Not from the factory, but as a factory option for an extra charge: an MM phono module can be permanently fitted. If you already know at the time of purchase that vinyl will be part of the picture, order the option right away – retrofitting later is possible, but more involved.

Can I combine the ISx with a streamer or DAC?

Yes, via one of the four RCA inputs or the optional bypass input, which is designed for connecting an external preamp or an AV processor with fixed gain. The ISx itself remains purely analogue, handling only the amplification, not the signal source.

Why buy the Lavardin ISx from HD Zürisee?

We carry Lavardin because we like amplifiers that sound like music, not like a datasheet – and because we'll tell you honestly whether it suits your speakers and your room. Call us, drop us a line, or come by for a coffee, and let's talk about your system.

Goes well with

A matching turntable or pairing with our bookshelf speakers gets a lot out of the ISx; for that last bit of fine-tuning, it's worth a look at our power cables selection.
