MOON 641 + 681 HiFi Set, North Collection

The MOON 641 + 681 HiFi Set combines the purely analogue 641 integrated amplifier with the 681 network player and DAC from the MOON North Collection to form a matched, high-end stereo system.

Why this set?

Because source and amplification are consistently kept separate here – and that's exactly the idea. The 681 handles everything digital: streaming via MiND 2 (Roon Ready, Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify), conversion via the MDE-1 engine up to DSD256, plus HDMI ARC for the TV. The 641 takes care of purely analogue power: 125 watts per channel at 8 ohms, true dual-mono construction, MDCA technology and a damping factor of 700 for tight control. Via MOONLink, the two work together as one device.

What you hear

A calm, transparent and cleanly layered presentation. Separating the sensitive digital section from the powerful amplifier power supply keeps interference out of the signal, so fine details and dynamic swings come through clearly – from the quietest touch to the full tutti, without harshness.

Who is this set for – and who is it not for?

Ideal for anyone who wants a complete, separately built high-end chain from a single series – streaming and powerful amplification matched to each other, expandable and built to last.

Honest take: if you want everything in a single chassis, a network integrated amplifier like the MOON 371 suits you better. And for small rooms with compact speakers, this set's reserves are bigger than the room will ever demand.

Our verdict

A cleanly matched entry into the North Collection: powerful, calm and future-proof thanks to a modern streaming platform. We at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil will tell you honestly which speakers this duo really needs – and match the chain to your room.

What the trade press says: The 641 scored 5 out of 5 stars and "Highly Recommended" at What Hi-Fi (2023); the 681 is recommended by What Hi-Fi (2024).

Frequently asked questions

What's included in the MOON 641 + 681 set?
The 641 integrated amplifier and the 681 network player/DAC from the North Collection, including remote controls, power cables and MOONLink cable. Together they form a complete system – all you need are speakers.

Why a separate streamer and amplifier instead of an all-in-one?
Separating the sensitive digital and phono section from the powerful amplifier power supply keeps interference out of the signal. The result is more calm and transparency. If you prefer something more compact, the MOON 371 offers an all-in-one solution.

Is the set Roon Ready and streaming-capable?
Yes. Via the 681's MiND 2 platform it is Roon Ready and supports Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify Connect. Hi-res up to DSD256 and MQA are also processed.

Why buy the MOON set at HD Zürisee?
Because a system is more than two boxes. We match the chain to your speakers and your room, set up streaming and sources, and as an authorised MOON dealer in Wädenswil we're here for warranty and service – with our own technician.
