The Grado GT220 is a true wireless in-ear headphone that packs Grado's own 8mm dynamic driver into a completely cable-free pair of earbuds with a Qi-compatible charging case.
It's Grado's first true wireless model – seven decades of company history, for the first time completely without cables. The result is a warm, colourful sound with full bass and clean treble that's never harsh.
Why the GT220?
At its core is an 8mm dynamic driver made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which Grado tuned specifically for these earbuds. The housing, made of acoustically optimised, high-density polycarbonate, and the twist-to-lock fit provide a secure hold and good seal – crucial for the sound in your ear.
The connection runs via Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX, AAC and SBC. Controls are touch-based: the left earbud handles calls and voice, the right handles music and volume.
What you hear
A mature, musical sound with a neutral, uncoloured midrange, defined bass and natural treble – clearly a step above what you know from standard earbuds.
Who is the GT220 for?
For anyone who wants Grado sound on the go, completely cable-free. Plain talk: if you expect active noise cancelling (ANC), this isn't for you – the GT220 relies on passive isolation from the fit, not electronic cancellation. And IPX2 means: a few drops, yes; continuous rain or showers, no.
Our verdict
The GT220 brings Grado's signature sound to the true wireless format – no ANC, no app, but with the sound the brand has stood for over the decades. For sound enthusiasts, the most exciting alternative to the usual suspects.

Frequently asked questions
Does the GT220 have active noise cancelling?
No. The GT220 relies on passive isolation from the twist-to-lock fit. There's no electronic ANC – but the sound stays unaltered as a result. If you're mainly looking for peace and quiet on a plane or commuter train, you're better served by an ANC model.
How long does the battery last?
Around 6 hours per charge, with the case providing five further charges – over 36 hours combined. Charging is via USB-C or Qi wireless, and a full charge takes around two hours. That's more than enough for a working day including your commute.
How water-resistant is the GT220?
It's rated IPX2. That covers vertically falling drops with the housing slightly tilted – so sweat on a walk or a brief drizzle. Sport in heavy rain, showering or swimming aren't covered by this – that would require a higher IPX rating.
