The Gold Note Vasari Red is a moving-magnet cartridge with a conical diamond, an aluminium cantilever and a body made of highly damped photopolymer resin, made in Italy.
It's the entry point into the Vasari series and makes no secret of that: no boron, no exotic stylus cut, but instead an easy-going, stable tracker that works on practically any turntable straight away. Sometimes that's exactly the right answer.
Why the Vasari Red?
The body made of special photopolymer resin damps strongly and keeps resonances away from the generator – an approach you'd otherwise find more in pricier systems. The conical diamond at 15.5 µm on a rigid aluminium cantilever is the most robust cut in the series: less sensitive to small alignment errors, and correspondingly forgiving in everyday use. At 7 grams, the Red is also the lightweight of the Vasari line.
What you hear
A warm, powerful and pleasantly direct sound that doesn't analyse but makes music. Bass and midrange have substance, the top end stays restrained – exactly what lets badly pressed vinyl sound forgivable. With 4 mV output voltage and a 47 kΩ load, it runs on any MM input.
Who is the Vasari Red for – and who isn't it for?
For beginners and for anyone looking for a reliable all-rounder on an entry-level to mid-range deck – also for a collection that's already been through a lot. Bottom line: if you're chasing the last bit of resolution and top-end finesse, go straight for the elliptical Vasari Gold or the Shibata version instead. The Red wants to play music, not dissect grooves.
Our verdict
An honest entry point with plenty of music: easy-going, long-lived and exactly the right thing to make a good deck sound decent in the first place. We at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil fit it cleanly for you and tell you honestly if your deck actually calls for more.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the Vasari Red and the Vasari Gold?
The Red tracks with a conical diamond and sits in a light, 7-gram synthetic resin body; the Gold uses an elliptical cut in a 9.5-gram duralumin body and separates the channels a little better. Output level, load, compliance and tracking force are identical.
Can I replace the stylus on the Vasari Red myself?
Yes. As an MM system, the Vasari Red has a replaceable stylus insert; Gold Note lists it as the Vasari Red TIP. Once the diamond is worn out after a few hundred hours, the body stays on the tonearm and only the insert gets replaced. We'll order it for you and check the alignment.
Is my amplifier's phono input enough for the Vasari Red?
Yes, as long as it's an MM input. With 4 mV the Red delivers plenty of level and wants to see the usual 47 kΩ. If your amplifier has no phono input at all, you'll need a separate MM phono stage – an MC-capable stage is not required for it.
Does the Vasari Red fit my turntable?
On a standard half-inch tonearm with 9 mm hole spacing it fits without any issue, and at just 7 grams it also gets along well with the light arms of older decks. We're happy to take care of fitting, tracking force and anti-skate – especially handy for your first own cartridge.
Does the Vasari Red forgive older or well-worn records?
Better than the finer cuts in the series. A conical diamond rides higher in the groove and there hits wear marks less often, marks that an elliptical or Shibata cut reproduces mercilessly. For flea-market finds and well-used collections, that's a real advantage.
Why buy the Gold Note Vasari Red at HD Zürisee?
Because a cartridge wants to be correctly fitted and aligned, even the most affordable one. We fit the Vasari cleanly, set tracking force, azimuth and anti-skate, and advise you on the right phono stage. In Wädenswil you can reach us by phone, email or WhatsApp – even after the purchase.
Goes well with
The Red looks good on a solid turntable with an adjustable tonearm. If you're missing a phono input, you'll find one under phono preamplifiers. Brushes, scales and alignment aids are listed under turntable accessories, further cartridges under cartridges.
