The Gold Note Mediterraneo is a belt-driven high-end turntable made in Italy that achieves outstanding smoothness through a multi-layer damped, curved wooden chassis.

Here in matte walnut: warm wood with a silky matte surface, plus a matte black acrylic top plate, black anodized metal parts and a black platter. Matte means understated – a deck that looks refined without showing off, and forgives fingerprints generously.

Why the Mediterraneo?

Behind the calm looks lies plenty of engineering. The 60mm thick base is shaped after the catenary curve, which distributes loads especially evenly; underneath, 20mm of polished acrylic and 3mm of stainless steel provide damping. The Italian walnut contributes elasticity and density. Together this creates a chassis that never lets resonance build up in the first place.

The 45mm thick POM platter turns via belt drive, powered by a high-torque 12V synchronous motor. The external control unit rebuilds the mains sine wave from scratch and holds 33⅓ and 45rpm precisely – the foundation for deep noise floors and a stable, unfussy sound.

What you get

The Mediterraneo is supplied complete with the Gold Note B-7 ceramic tonearm, the external PST-1 power supply and a transparent hinged acrylic cover. You choose the cartridge separately – to match your phono stage and your taste. Anyone wanting the maximum can later upgrade to the inductive PST-10.

Who is the Mediterraneo for?

For demanding vinyl listeners looking for a visually understated, mechanically uncompromising deck. Bottom line: if you see the turntable mainly as decoration and rarely play a record, you're paying for engineering you'll never push to its limits – and without a matching cartridge plus phono stage, the Mediterraneo stays below its potential.

What's the difference between matte and gloss?

Visually and to the touch: matte walnut looks calmer and barely shows fingerprints, while the glossy version plays more with the light. Sonically the two are identical. It's purely a matter of taste and interior style – and exactly what we're happy to help you work out.

Our verdict

In matte walnut, the Mediterraneo is the quiet version of a loud statement: high-end engineering in a housing that doesn't push itself into the foreground. If you like understatement and still don't want to give up anything in sound, you've come to the right place.

Frequently asked questions

Is a cartridge included?

No. Included are the Gold Note B-7 tonearm, the PST-1 power supply and the acrylic cover – the cartridge comes separately. That way you can tune MM or MC precisely to your phono stage and taste instead of accepting a factory compromise.

Does the Mediterraneo stand stably and how much space does it need?

At around 20kg it stands rock-solid, but needs a stable piece of furniture and about 47 × 36cm of footprint, plus a bit more height with the cover on. The calmer and more decoupled the surface, the better. We're happy to help you find the right rack or wall shelf.

Why buy the Gold Note Mediterraneo at HD Zürisee?

Goes well with: the matching cartridge for the B-7 arm, plus other turntables to compare side by side.
