The Gold Note A6 EVO II is a slim 3-way floorstanding speaker from Italy, in which an internal subwoofer fires downward into the included wooden plinth.
This version has silk-matte lacquered walnut on the side panels — the same wood as the high-gloss variant, just without the mirror-like clear coat on top. That changes exactly nothing about the sound and a great deal about how it looks in the room: at 1.08 metres tall, matte draws noticeably less attention than piano lacquer. Everything else stays technically identical — 1.1-inch silk dome tweeter, two 5.5-inch treated-paper mid-woofers, internal 6-inch downfire driver, crossover with Mundorf and Clarity components.
Why the A6 EVO II?
Because a 23-centimetre-wide cabinet and grown-up bass depth normally rule each other out. Gold Note solves this with a diamond-angled cabinet braced with aluminium and a bass driver that works not forward or backward, but downward. What has to stay narrow simply becomes deep — and the bass finds its way into the room via the plinth.
What you hear
A speaker that stays within ±3 dB across the entire range from 40 Hz to 20 kHz, and sounds exactly like that: even, without rough edges, without added-on effects. Voices stand firmly anchored in the centre, instruments can be located individually, the downfire bass fills the room without pushing in the upper bass. With dynamic recordings — drums, large orchestra — it stays clean instead of collapsing.
Who is the A6 EVO II suited for – and who isn't it for?
For listeners from about 20 square metres upward who want grown-up sound without putting a cabinet-sized speaker in the living room. The matte surface pays off doubly here: it reflects no light, shows no fingerprints, and makes the tall, narrow body look visually slimmer — a noticeable difference especially in rooms with large windows or a TV opposite. Plain talk: for very small rooms it's too much speaker, that's where the A3 EVO II belongs. And if you deliberately want to showcase your unit as a glossy showpiece, go for the high-gloss version.
Our verdict
The sensible half of a very good speaker pair: same technology, same sound, a calmer appearance. If you want the music, not the furniture, to stand in the room in the end, you can't go wrong with walnut matte. And the everyday benefit — never having to dust before guests arrive — is more honest than manufacturers would admit.

Frequently asked questions
Does walnut matte sound different from walnut high gloss?
No. The difference lies solely in the finish of the side panels. Drivers, cabinet volume, crossover, plinth and all measured values are identical for both versions. The decision is purely a question of look, the room's lighting and how much upkeep you want.
How much distance to the wall and listening distance does the A6 EVO II need?
Less than most floorstanding speakers of its size. Because the bass works downward rather than against the rear wall, twenty to thirty centimetres of distance is enough in many rooms. For the soundstage, two to three metres of listening distance is a good starting point, toed in slightly toward the listening position.
Do I have to use the wooden plinth?
Yes, it's part of the acoustic design. The internal subwoofer fires downward and needs the floor distance defined by the plinth for the tuning to be correct. The plinth comes included with the speaker and isn't procured separately.
What amplifier does the A6 EVO II need?
At least 20 watts according to Gold Note, and it handles up to 150 watts RMS. More important than raw wattage is stability at four ohms: an amplifier with current reserves keeps the downfire bass noticeably better under control than a lightweight with a high spec-sheet number.
Is the A6 EVO II sold in pairs?
Yes. Gold Note sells and delivers in pairs, and all figures refer accordingly to a pair — including the 60-kilogram net weight. Two plinths are of course included. A single unit can be arranged through the distributor if needed.
Why buy the A6 EVO II in walnut matte from HD Zürisee?
Because the choice between matte and high gloss is less a matter of taste than of the room, and we help you with experience rather than brochure talk. HD Zürisee in Wädenswil advises on amplifier, placement and cabling and delivers fully set up on request. Just write or call.
