The Gold Note A6 EVO II is a slim 3-way floorstanding speaker from Italy whose internal subwoofer fires downward, using the included wooden plinth as its acoustic base.
Here the side panels are finished in high-gloss polished walnut. On a cabinet 1.08 metres tall, that's a statement: the lacquer draws in light and turns the speaker into a visible piece of furniture. Inside, a 1.1-inch silk dome tweeter, two 5.5-inch treated-paper mid-woofers and an internal 6-inch downfire driver work together, controlled by a crossover with Mundorf and Clarity components.
Why the A6 EVO II?
Because it delivers the soundstage and depth of a large floorstanding speaker without looking like one. Just 23 centimetres wide, a diamond-angled cabinet with aluminium reinforcements, and the entire bass section works invisibly downward. Gold Note builds the cabinet and tuning in Tuscany — the result sounds fast, clean and never intrusive.
What you hear
A wide, deeply layered soundstage on which individual musicians can be clearly located. Mids and highs resolve with rich detail, the downfire driver delivers tight, controlled bass that fills the room without booming. The transient response handles dynamic recordings effortlessly too — drums, rock, large-scale classical. From 40 Hz to 20 kHz, the frequency response stays within ±3 dB.
Who is the A6 EVO II suited for – and who isn't it for?
For listeners who want mature, grown-up sound in a medium to larger room without setting up bulky towers. Plain talk: in a very small room the A6 EVO II overwhelms the space with bass — there the compact A3 EVO II is the smarter choice. And an honest note on the high-gloss version: piano lacquer on a surface this size reliably reflects windows, lamps and the TV. If you don't want that, choose walnut matte — acoustically identical, visually much calmer.
Our verdict
An Italian floorstanding speaker that brings together elegance, uncritical placement and grown-up sound. If you're after musicality and soundstage rather than maximum volume, this is exactly right. Enjoy the Music wrote about the A6 EVO II in August 2023: "I would be hard-pressed to identify another market-competitive, full-range speaker at this price point that captures as many of the musical attributes of the A6 EVO II." — Dr. Michael Bump, Enjoy the Music, 08/2023.

Frequently asked questions
Is the plinth included in the scope of delivery?
Yes, the matching wooden plinth is included. It's not an accessory but acoustically part of the design: the internal subwoofer fires downward and needs the defined distance from the floor that the plinth creates. Without it, the bass tuning no longer works correctly.
How large should the room be?
From about 20 square metres the A6 EVO II plays freely, and it makes confident use of larger rooms too. In very small rooms the bass quickly becomes too much of a good thing — then the A3 EVO II, with its 45 Hz lower cutoff, is the better choice.
How critical is placement?
Surprisingly uncritical for a floorstanding speaker of this class. Because the bass fires downward into the plinth rather than backward into the wall, the A6 EVO II tolerates smaller distances to the wall too. Twenty to thirty centimetres is enough in many rooms.
Does the A6 EVO II suit a tube amplifier?
In principle yes, but with care. Four ohms nominal impedance calls for an amplifier with current reserves. Gold Note states 20 watts as the minimum; more powerful tube amps or a good transistor amp work better in harmony, especially in the bass. We're happy to advise on the specific combination.
How do I keep the high-gloss surface clean?
With a soft, slightly dampened microfibre cloth and no abrasives. Piano lacquer shows dust and fingerprints more clearly than a matte surface, but wipes off without residue. A few seconds a week is all it takes.
Why buy the Gold Note A6 EVO II from HD Zürisee?
Because a floorstanding speaker of this scale lives from room, amplifier and placement — and because for many years we've seen which combinations actually bring joy in everyday use. HD Zürisee in Wädenswil delivers and sets up on site on request. Call us or write via WhatsApp.
Goes well with
A powerful integrated amplifier with current reserves gets the most out of the A6 EVO II's four ohms. And very much in the spirit of the house of Gold Note: a turntable along with a matching phono preamplifier.
