The Gold Note PSX-5.2 is an external inductive power supply for the Series 5 that feeds a PH-5 or PH-5.2 phono stage and a Series 5 line source with clean power at the same time.
It succeeds the PSU-5 and adds a second output, a revised mechanical design and a stronger power stage. The chassis in black anodised aluminium matches exactly what already sits next to the PH-5.2 and friends in your rack.
Why the PSX-5.2?
Small units have small power supplies – the Series 5 is no exception. The PSX-5.2 moves the power supply into its own chassis and filters it with Gold Note’s “Super Inductive Dual Choke” technology: four audio-grade rails, two ultra-low-noise voltage regulators and choke filtering that catches mains interference before it reaches the sensitive electronics. The highlight is the dual output: a phono stage and a line source such as the CD-5.2, DS-5.2 or HP-5.2 can be connected at the same time. One power supply, two beneficiaries – maths even the accountant will like.
What you hear
Gold Note promises less noise, a darker background and more micro-detail. In practice that means quiet passages sit more calmly in the room and decays don’t break off as early. With vinyl in particular, where the phono stage amplifies a tiny signal enormously, a clean supply makes an audible difference. It is not a new sonic character – rather your existing unit with less of a grey veil.
Who is the PSX-5.2 for?
For anyone who owns a PH-5 or PH-5.2 and is looking for the next sensible step before thinking about a more expensive phono stage – all the more if a CD-5.2, DS-5.2 or HP-5.2 is part of the system. Bottom line: The PSX-5.2 is not intended for Series 10 or 1000 units; they have their own power supplies. And if your cartridge and set-up still need work, you will gain more there first.
Our verdict
The PSX-5.2 is the most sensible upgrade for the Series 5: compact, in the same chassis format and, with two outputs, far more versatile than the PSU-5. Not sure whether your combination fits? Call us or send a WhatsApp – at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we’ll be happy to check it for you.

Frequently asked questions
Which units can I connect to the PSX-5.2?
The PSX-5.2 powers the PH-5 and PH-5.2 phono stages as well as the CD-5, CD-5.2, HP-5.2 and DS-5.2 line sources from Gold Note. Thanks to two outputs, you can keep a phono stage and a line source connected at the same time. For Series 10 and 1000 units, Gold Note offers its own, larger power supplies.
What is the difference between the PSX-5.2 and the PSU-5?
The PSX-5.2 is the evolution of the PSU-5. It has two outputs instead of one, a revised mechanical design and a stronger power supply with four rails. The PSU-5 only powers the PH-5, while the PSX-5.2 also powers the PH-5.2 and Series 5 line sources. If you are buying new, the PSX-5.2 gives you more flexibility.
