Focal Aria SR900 Surround Speaker, Black (Each)

The Focal Aria SR900 is a bipolar 2-way surround speaker from the French Aria series for wall mounting in the home cinema. Supplied as a single speaker.

Two 13 cm Flax drivers and two inverted aluminum/magnesium TNF tweeters radiate sound in a wide pattern – creating the enveloping sound field that surround channels need. At just 17 cm deep, it barely protrudes from the wall.

Why the Focal Aria SR900?

Because surround channels aren't meant to pinpoint a location, but to envelop you. The bipolar arrangement spreads sound around the room in a controlled way instead of bundling it at one point. The Flax cone made from French flax keeps the tonal color close to the other Aria models, and the waveguide on the tweeters keeps the highs precise. The included Polyfix wall bracket makes mounting straightforward.

What you hear

A wide, diffuse surround field that envelops you: rain, wind, or applause really do seem to come from behind and from the side, without any single box pushing itself into the foreground.

Who is the SR900 for – and who isn't it for?

Straight talk: the SR900 is a surround specialist and needs the wall behind it as a reflecting surface. Used as a main stereo speaker, it underperforms – that's what front speakers are for. And with a minimum impedance of 3.6 Ω, it wants an amplifier with reserves, not a cheap unit.

Do I need two?

For a classic 5.1 system, yes – one per surround channel. The SR900 is supplied individually, so you order the quantity that matches your setup.

Yes. It uses the same Flax technology and is the matching surround companion to an Aria EVO X front, center, and a SUB 1000F for a cohesive 5.1 system.

How high should I mount the SR900?

A height of around 60 cm above ear level on the side or rear wall works well. That creates an enveloping field that's neither too direct nor too diffuse.
