The Faller OSKAR 2 is a portable TV speech amplifier that sends the TV sound wirelessly to your seat and specifically emphasises dialogue with Clearvoice Technology® 3.0.

You know the situation: the film is playing, the music swells, and that's exactly when the key line is spoken. So you turn it up. Then the next explosion is too loud, and the person next to you gives you a look. OSKAR 2 solves this the other way round: it puts the voice in the foreground instead of simply making everything louder.

Why the OSKAR 2?

Because it solves a single problem, and now even more thoroughly. The second generation works with an AI speech model that, according to the manufacturer, was trained on more than 600,000 hours of material and suppresses background noise much more effectively than its predecessor. Four filter levels, including a music mode and a news mode, let you adapt the voice optimisation to the programme and to your hearing.

Also new is the HDMI ARC connection on the base station. It sits alongside the optical input and the AUX input, so OSKAR 2 docks with practically any TV. A base station stays at the TV, while the actual OSKAR sits with you: on the side table, the armrest, the kitchen counter.

What you get

Two 5-watt neodymium speakers, driven by two multi-core DSP processors: not a home cinema, but speech at room volume right in front of you. Up to 20 hours of battery life, after which OSKAR 2 fully recharges on the base station in about four hours. The wireless connection reaches up to around 30 metres, so through the living room, the open kitchen and usually onto the balcony too.

The optimised tilt function aims the sound at your seating position, and the selectable sound field is either focused on a single listener or designed for a group. The housing made of aluminium, plastic and acoustic fabric has a carrying handle and a rotary control that does exactly what you'd expect of it. Via the headphone output, you can keep the sound entirely to yourself if you wish.

Who is the OSKAR 2 suitable for?

For everyone who has to listen attentively while watching TV rather than just watch, and who get tired of it in the evening. For households where two people need two different volumes. And for anyone who walks away from the TV and still wants to keep listening.

Plain speaking: OSKAR 2 is not a sound system. It doesn't make films bigger, bass deeper or surround more spacious – it's a specialist for speech. If you want to upgrade the overall TV sound, you're better served by a home cinema solution. And if you have a medically treated hearing loss, this doesn't replace a hearing aid.

Our verdict

A device with a single job that it does cleanly: understanding instead of turning it up. We like that Faller has resisted the temptation, even in the second generation, to pile on streaming, an app and a voice assistant. One cable to the TV, one rotary control, peace and quiet in the living room. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, we like to file devices like this under "problem solved, next topic".

Frequently asked questions

How is the Faller OSKAR 2 connected to the TV?
Via the base station: one cable for power, one for sound. For the sound, you use the HDMI (ARC) connection, the optical output (Toslink) or the analogue AUX output of your TV. The matching cables are included. No app, Wi-Fi or account is needed.

What's new compared with the first OSKAR?
OSKAR 2 brings Clearvoice Technology® 3.0 with an AI speech model, an optimised tilt function, a selectable sound field for single listeners or groups and, for the first time, an HDMI ARC connection. The basic principle stays the same: base station at the TV, OSKAR with you, voices to the front.

Does OSKAR 2 work with every TV?
With practically any device that has HDMI (ARC), an optical digital output or an analogue headphone or line output, including smart TVs. Take a quick look at the back of your TV to see which connections are available. If in doubt, we'll gladly check your model with you.

Can I connect headphones to OSKAR 2?
Yes. OSKAR 2 has a 3.5 mm headphone output, and according to the manufacturer the voice optimisation also works through headphones. That way you can keep watching late at night without disturbing the rest of the household. You adjust the volume with OSKAR's own rotary control.

How long does the battery last and how far does the wireless signal reach?
Up to 20 hours in normal use, which is enough for several evenings of TV. Charging takes place on the base station, and a full charge takes about four hours. The low-latency wireless connection carries up to about 30 metres, with picture and sound staying in sync.

Why buy the Faller OSKAR 2 at HD Zürisee?
Because we tell you beforehand whether the device actually solves your problem. We look with you at which audio output your TV has, where OSKAR 2 should sit in your home and whether a different solution might suit you better. For questions about connecting it, our technician Mauri is there to help.
