The EMT JSD Novel Titan is an MC cartridge whose generator works with a coil of pure silver in a DLC-coated titanium body.

Why the JSD Novel Titan?

Titanium is stiffer than aluminium and lighter than steel, and the diamond-like carbon coating (DLC) additionally hardens the surface. Both aim at the same thing: the body shouldn't contribute any sound of its own, but should pass energy on to the tonearm. The pure silver (4N) coil is the faster, less colouring variant compared to gold – anyone who has heard silver versus copper wiring knows the direction. Who is the JSD Novel Titan for?

For anyone who values fidelity over warmth – and for anyone whose tonearm can't balance the Novel Gold's 18 grams. Straight talk: if you mainly listen to hard rock and are chiefly after impact, you'll be happier with the Novel Gold or a more robust cartridge; that's exactly what Stereophile noted in the review quoted above too. And a cartridge of this class on a turntable with a rough bearing is money wasted – it's worth getting the order of priorities right first.
