Denon PMA-900HNE Streaming Integrated Amplifier HEOS

The Denon PMA-900HNE is a stereo integrated amplifier with built-in HEOS streaming that brings together classic amplifier technology and network playback in a single unit.

The "H" in the name stands for exactly that at Denon: HEOS built in, no extra box, no second tangle of cables. You connect your speakers, your Wi-Fi – and then have access to streaming services, internet radio and your own music collection, with no detours.

Why the PMA-900HNE?

Because it doesn't sacrifice Denon's typical amplifier quality for the sake of streaming, but combines both. The power amp delivers 50 watts per channel into 8 Ω and, at 85 watts into 4 Ω, shows that more demanding speakers are no problem either. HEOS Built-in also brings multiroom capability, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth 5.4 – and if you want, you can add Alexa voice control.

What you hear

A warm, punchy sound with Denon's familiar signature, plus the convenience of choosing any source via the app. Spotify, Amazon Music, TuneIn, Deezer, SoundCloud and Tidal are directly integrated, and "Roon Tested" also makes it a fine target for Roon users. If you prefer listening to vinyl, you'll appreciate the built-in phono preamp for MM and MC cartridges.

Who is the PMA-900HNE for? (and who isn't it for)

For anyone who wants a genuine integrated amplifier but wants to do without an extra streaming device. Straight talk: if you're after maximum amplifier power for large, inefficient floorstanding speakers, you're better off with the PMA-1700NE or PMA-3000NE – the PMA-900HNE targets the combination of solid sound and smart operation, not record specs.

Our verdict

The PMA-900HNE is proof that streaming and substance aren't mutually exclusive. At the 2023 Sound+Image Awards, it was named "Amplifier of the Year under AU$2000", with the judges noting: "Denon has taken its hi-fi amplifier expertise and added HEOS streaming and multiroom to the front, surprisingly for the first time. It's a cracking combination." – Sound+Image Awards, 15 May 2023. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, we're happy to show you how it fits into your home.

Frequently asked questions

What does the "H" in the name PMA-900HNE mean?
It stands for HEOS Built-in – so the amplifier has a network streaming unit permanently built in, including Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2 and multiroom capability. You don't need a separate streaming device for that.

Does the PMA-900HNE work without a streaming subscription too?
Yes. Internet radio via TuneIn, a turntable connected to the phono preamp, or a source on the digital inputs all run entirely without any subscription. Streaming services are an additional option, not a requirement.

Can I control several HEOS speakers at once?
Yes, HEOS Built-in makes the PMA-900HNE multiroom-capable – you play the same or different music in sync on other HEOS devices around the house, controlled via the HEOS app.

Is the PMA-900HNE powerful enough for large floorstanding speakers?
For most compact and medium-sized speakers, the power is plenty. For very large or inefficient floorstanding speakers, it's worth looking at the PMA-1700NE – we're happy to advise on your specific combination.

Why buy the Denon PMA-900HNE at HD Zürisee?
Because for years we've known which streaming amplifiers actually prove themselves in everyday use – not just on paper. We help you with Wi-Fi setup, choosing speakers, and can take on installation through our technician Mauri on request.
