The Denon DHT-S218 is a slim 2.1-channel soundbar with two built-in subwoofers and Dolby Atmos that gets by entirely without a separate bass box.
Instead of a bar plus an extra subwoofer housing in the room, everything sits here in a bar only 6 cm tall. One cable to the TV, done – for living rooms where every second device is one too many.
Why the DHT-S218?
Because it's the entry-level model in the series and still has Dolby Atmos on board – unusual for this price class. Two downward-firing subwoofers sit directly in the bar, plus two mid-range and two tweeter drivers each. HDMI eARC transmits the TV sound losslessly, with no separate receiver needed at all.
What you hear and get
For such a compact bar, the DHT-S218 delivers surprisingly strong bass punch, without needing a second device standing anywhere in the room. The Denon Dialog Enhancer keeps voices clear, and your TV's remote usually controls the bar's volume too via HDMI.
Who is the DHT-S218 suited for? (and who isn't it for)
Ideal for smaller living rooms or second setups where there's no room for an extra subwoofer, or where it simply isn't wanted. Bottom line: If you want maximum bass, there's no way around a bar with a separate subwoofer like the DHT-S316 – the built-in subwoofers of the DHT-S218 are solid, but physically smaller than an external bass box. Streaming is also Bluetooth only – there's no HEOS or Wi-Fi here.
Our verdict
The DHT-S218 is the pragmatic choice when Atmos feel and a tidy living room matter more than the last centimeter of bass. If you really want punch, feel free to compare it against the larger models in the series at our shop in Wädenswil – we'll tell you honestly where the difference lies.

Frequently asked questions
Does the DHT-S218 come with a subwoofer?
No, and it's not needed either: two downward-firing subwoofers are already built into the bar itself. A separate bass box can't be added – if you want more bass, go for the DHT-S316 or DHT-S517 with an external subwoofer.
Does the DHT-S218 really have Dolby Atmos without height speakers?
Yes, it decodes Dolby Atmos and processes the signal psychoacoustically for a more spatial impression, without any separate ceiling channels. A more noticeable height experience with real up-firing drivers is offered by the larger DHT-S517.
Can I integrate the DHT-S218 into a multiroom system via HEOS?
No, streaming is exclusively via Bluetooth. For multiroom, we recommend other models from our range – just ask us.
