The Denon AVR-X2800H DAB is a 7.2-channel AV receiver that combines 7 power amps with 8K HDMI 2.1 connectivity and a built-in DAB+/FM tuner.
It's identical in construction to the AVC-X2850H, but has one extra its sibling lacks: a radio tuner section. If you still listen to classic radio over coffee in the morning and watch Atmos movies in the evening, you don't need to buy two devices here.
Why the AVR-X2800H DAB?
Because it brings along everything a solid 7.1 home cinema needs – 95 watts per channel at 8 ohms, Audyssey MultEQ XT for room correction, two independent subwoofer outputs, a phono input for the turntable – plus a built-in DAB+/FM tuner with RDS. A clock radio or a separate kitchen radio becomes unnecessary for this one room.
USB-A, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth round out the connectivity, all with no subscription needed for internet radio.
What you hear and see
Dolby Atmos with Height Virtualization and DTS:X are natively decoded. Six HDMI inputs (three with 8K) and two 8K-capable outputs with eARC bring your picture up to date, plus ALLM, QFT, and VRR for gaming. Streaming runs via HEOS, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Qobuz with Roon support – and if you don't want a subscription, you simply listen to DAB+, FM, or internet radio.
Who is the AVR-X2800H DAB suited for?
For anyone planning a classic 5.1 or 7.1 setup with an optional Atmos entry (5.1.2) and who doesn't want to give up built-in radio reception. If you don't need the tuner, the identically built AVC-X2850H saves you a little money.
Bottom line: For a larger setup with more than two height channels, seven power amps aren't enough – then you need a model with more channels like the AVC-X4800H, though without a radio tuner.
Our verdict
The AVR-X2800H DAB is the practical choice for anyone who wants radio and home cinema in one device, without compromising on cinema features. A small but genuinely pleasant plus in everyday use compared to the sibling without a tuner. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we advise you on whether the extra is worth it for you.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference to the AVC-X2850H?
Both share power amps, features, and price range. The AVR-X2800H DAB additionally has a built-in DAB+/FM tuner with RDS – the AVC-X2850H doesn't have this, but is slightly cheaper as a result.
How many speakers can the AVR-X2800H DAB drive?
7 power amps enable a classic 7.1 setup or a 5.1.2 Atmos configuration with two height channels. For more height channels at once, you need a model with more power amps.
Does the tuner also receive FM stations?
Yes. The built-in tuner receives both DAB+ and classic FM with RDS station-name display. Internet radio also runs via HEOS, with no subscription at all.
Does the AVR-X2800H DAB have a phono input?
Yes, an MM phono input is built in. A turntable with a moving-magnet cartridge can be connected directly, without a separate phono preamp.
Is the AVR-X2800H DAB suitable for gaming?
Yes. Three of the six HDMI inputs support 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz with VRR, ALLM, and QFT. PS5, Xbox Series, and gaming PCs run smoothly here.
