The DALI Sub K-14 F is an active 14-inch subwoofer from Denmark with a downfiring bass reflex port and a 450-watt Class D amplifier, built for large rooms and uncompromising home cinema.

In White Silk Matte, a silky matte cabinet meets a white high-gloss baffle – a contrast that visually lightens the cabinet. The fact that the 14-incher reaches almost to the edge of this baffle does the rest: a large driver, a cabinet that looks smaller. The black aluminium cone is stiff and light at the same time and skips a dust cap, so the motion stays piston-clean. A switch-mode power supply keeps the amplifier cool, which is why the K-14 F gets by without an external heatsink.

Why the Sub K-14 F?

Because power without control would just be noise. 450 watts of continuous output and 500 watts peak move the large driver effortlessly down to 29 Hz – a region you feel more than you hear. The 44 litres of volume in the solid MDF cabinet give the driver the room it needs for that depth, and up to 115 dB maximum level there's still headroom left even in the loudest movie scene.

What you get

A large active subwoofer in White Silk Matte with a white high-gloss baffle, carried by an aluminium base that decouples the cabinet from the floor and makes it appear to float. You set level, phase and crossover frequency on the rear panel, and connection runs via LFE or Cinch line. How it works with your front speakers and your room, we'll figure out together with you at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.

Who is the Sub K-14 F suitable for?

Plain talk: put it in a small living room and you're buying power you'll never use – the K-14 F needs floor space to build its 29 Hz cleanly. It's also two sizes too big as a second sub for a bedroom TV. In large living rooms, lofts and serious home cinemas, though, it plays in a league where compromises are rarely needed.

Our verdict

The K-14 F is the statement piece among DALI's subwoofers: 26.4 kilos, 44 litres, 450 watts of continuous output – and yet a bass that leads instead of pushes. It credibly extends large floorstanding speakers downward and turns a good home cinema into a convincing one. In White Silk Matte it looks surprisingly restrained for its size. Anyone with the space who still reaches for the smaller model will be kicking themselves within two weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Isn't the Sub K-14 F too big for my room?

That depends on the floor area. From around 30 square metres, in lofts and in home cinemas, the K-14 F plays confidently while staying relaxed. In small rooms you can barely make use of its energy – there the more compact Sub E-12 F is the smarter choice. We're happy to help you work that out.

What connections does the Sub K-14 F have?

Two paths lead in: the mono LFE input for your AV receiver's subwoofer output, and the low-pass filtered Cinch line inputs for stereo amplifiers without a sub output. Both work with 10 kilohm input impedance. There are no pass-through outputs or speaker terminals for high-level input.

How does the K-14 F differ from the Sub E-12 F?

Bigger in every respect: 14 instead of 12 inches of driver area, 450 instead of 170 watts of continuous output, 44 litres of cabinet volume and 115 instead of 112 dB maximum level. In return it weighs almost twice as much at 26.4 kilos. The E-12 F is the compact one for medium-sized rooms, the K-14 F the powerhouse for large ones.

How much upkeep does the white finish need?

White Silk Matte combines a matte silk surface on the cabinet with a white high-gloss baffle. The matte part is low-maintenance; the high-gloss front shows dust a bit more clearly – a soft, dry cloth is enough. With the front grille attached, the baffle stays protected anyway.

What do I gain by buying the Sub K-14 F at HD Zürisee?

A subwoofer of this size is won or lost in the tuning: placement, level, phase and crossover frequency have to be right, or it booms instead of carries. As an authorised specialist retailer we take the time for that, and our technician Mauri delivers and sets it up at your home on request. Contact: shop@hdzuerisee.ch.
