DALI Opticon Vokal MK2 Grille, Grey

The DALI Opticon Vokal MK2 grille is the clip-on front cover for the DALI Opticon Vokal MK2 – acoustically transparent fabric on a form-fitting frame that protects the cones and tweeter without bending dialogue out of shape.

This version carries the grey covering that DALI includes from the factory with the cabinet in Satin White. On a light-coloured sideboard under the TV it looks calmer than a black front – and if the TV cabinet itself is grey, the center practically disappears into it.

Why the integrated clip solution?

On the Opticon MK2, the mounts sit in the surrounds of the woofer/midrange and tweeter, into which the grille's mounting pins engage. There are no drill holes in the 25 mm thick baffle, no visible fasteners, no tools – and nothing that could vibrate during an action scene. For the center, which works the hardest of all in a film, that's worth its weight in gold.

What you get

A single piece for exactly one center. The frame covers the full front area of the Vokal MK2 – both wood fibre woofer/midrange drivers on the outside and the hybrid tweeter module in the middle. It sits equally well whether the center stands freely on the furniture or lies in a rack compartment.

Who is the grille suited to?

Plain talk: if you run the center in a dark cinema room and want every last detail on movie night, leave the covering off – fabric in front of the tweeter always costs a touch physically. Grey is the colour for light living rooms and grey furniture; in front of a black cabinet on a dark TV stand, though, it looks like a light stripe you really do notice. In that case, black is the better choice.

Our verdict

The diplomatic colour. Grey gets along with light wood, with concrete and with most TV furniture without pushing itself forward, and shows dust later than white. As a replacement for a worn or torn covering, a small item with an immediately visible effect.

Which cabinet finish does the grey grille suit best?

Satin White. DALI includes the light-coloured covering with the white Opticon Vokal MK2 from the factory, and the black covering with the dark finishes Satin Black and Tobacco Oak. As an accessory you can mix and match freely – what ultimately matters is the colour of your TV furniture, not the speaker.

Can I leave the grille on permanently?

Yes, that's what it's built for. The fabric is acoustically transparent, you won't hear a difference in everyday use. Only take it off if you want to listen critically or need to vacuum dust off – thanks to the clip mount, that's a matter of seconds, no tools required.

Does the grille fit the first-generation Opticon Vokal?

No. Between the original Opticon series and the MK2, the front area and mounting points changed. This cover belongs exclusively to the Vokal MK2. If you're unsure which generation you have, send us a photo of the front – we'll identify it.
