DALI Opticon LCR MK2 Grille, Black

The DALI Opticon LCR MK2 Grille is the clip-on front cover for the DALI Opticon LCR MK2 – acoustically permeable fabric on a flat, precisely fitted frame that protects the drivers without bending the sound.

This version wears the black cover and is therefore the unobtrusive partner for an Opticon LCR MK2 in Satin Black or Tobacco Oak. On the wall, you then see the speaker – not the cover in front of it.

Why the integrated clip solution?

DALI has built the mounting points on the Opticon MK2 directly into the surrounds of the woofer/midrange and tweeter; the grille's fixing pins engage exactly there. Result: no drilled holes in the baffle, no visible fixings – and nothing that could rattle at high levels. The grille sits snugly, comes off by hand in a second, and goes back on just as quickly.

What you get

A single item, not a pair. If you run two LCRs as left and right front speakers, you need two grilles; if you also equip the centre with one, three. The frame is kept flat so the already slim on-wall speaker doesn't add bulk, and it fits in both mounting orientations: upright for left and right, sideways as a centre channel under the screen.

Who is the grille suited to?

Plain and simple: if you want to coax the very last trace of airiness out of the ribbon in a darkened room, you'll prefer listening without it – any fabric in front of the tweeter costs a touch of brilliance, purely as a matter of physics. For everyday life with kids, cats and a feather duster, though, it's exactly what keeps your drivers pristine. And for anyone who simply finds a black fabric front more attractive than visible cones.

Our verdict

Small spare part, big effect: a torn or dusty cover ruins the look of an otherwise flawless speaker. Black is the safest choice here, because it suits practically any wall colour and any cabinet finish – and because a black surface on a wall visually just disappears.

Frequently asked questions

Does the grille also fit when the LCR is mounted sideways as a centre channel?

Yes. The frame fits precisely in both orientations – upright as a left or right front speaker, sideways as a centre channel under the screen. The Opticon LCR MK2's rotated hybrid tweeter module makes no difference here, because the mount sits symmetrically in the driver surrounds.

How does the grille stay on the speaker?

Via fixing pins. DALI has built the mounting points for these directly into the surrounds of the woofer/midrange and tweeter, so there are no visible fixings or drilled holes in the baffle. You press the cover on, the pins engage noticeably – and for cleaning or a critical listening session, you simply pull it off by hand again.

Do I get a pair or a single item?

A single item. You need one grille per speaker, so a stereo pair of Opticon LCR MK2 needs two, and a complete front trio needs three. Just tell us how many speakers are on your wall, and we'll put together the right quantity – sensibly all in the same colour.
