DALI Opticon 2 MK2 Grille, White

The DALI Opticon 2 MK2 Grille, White is the hand-fitted front cover for the DALI Opticon 2 MK2 bookshelf speaker – white acoustic fabric on a precisely fitted frame that protects the drivers without bending the sound.

White is the accessory colour in the Opticon MK2 range: DALI doesn't include it with any speaker. The dark cabinets come with black fabric, the white-lacquered one with a mottled grey – the white version, called Marshmallow White by DALI, is available exclusively separately. If you want your light-coloured Opticon 2 MK2 to be consistently white all the way through, there's no way around this part. It's a deliberate decision, not an impulse buy.

Mounting pins that engage the surrounds of the tweeter and woofer provide the hold: no holes in the baffle, no visible fasteners, no tools – it comes off and goes on by hand. The fabric lets sound pass through almost unimpeded while keeping fingers, claws and dust away from the 6½-inch woofer cone and the 29 mm soft-dome tweeter.

Who is the grille suited to?

Straight talk: purely acoustically, it gives you nothing the standard grey fabric couldn't also do – and any fabric in front of the dome physically costs a touch of brilliance. This grille is a decision made with the eye: a light wall, light furniture, a light box, nothing that stands out from the decor. If you prefer contrast, or are sensitive to fingerprints on light-coloured fabric, you'll be more relaxed with black or grey.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white fabric change anything about the sound?

Nothing audible in everyday use. The colour of the fabric plays no acoustic role; what matters is transparency, and that's what the fabric is designed for. For a session with full attention you pull the cover off; afterwards it's back in place with one motion.

Is the white grille included with the Opticon 2 MK2?

No, it's a pure accessory. DALI includes a black fabric with the dark cabinets and a mottled grey one with the white one; white, called Marshmallow White by DALI, is carried exclusively as a separate item. That's the reason this part is in the range as a standalone item at all.

How many pieces do I need for my pair?

Two. The item is a single unit and covers exactly one speaker. Since white isn't included with any cabinet variant, converting always means fitting both speakers. Tell us the quantity when ordering, and the delivery arrives complete.

Does it also fit the Opticon 1 MK2 or the MK1 range?

No. The cover is tailored to the baffle of the Opticon 2 MK2; the smaller Opticon 1 MK2 has its own grille with its own item number. The front covers of the first Opticon generation are also separate spare parts and not interchangeable with the MK2 parts. The model designation decides.
