DALI Opticon 2 MK2 Grille, Grey

The DALI Opticon 2 MK2 Grille, Grey is the clip-on front cover for the DALI Opticon 2 MK2 bookshelf speaker – mottled grey acoustic fabric on a precisely fitted frame that protects the drivers without bending the sound.

Grey is the fabric DALI includes as standard with the white-lacquered Opticon 2 MK2; in the accessories programme this colour is called Mountain Grey. If you want to keep your light-coloured pair in original condition or replace a damaged cover, this is the one. The subtly mottled grey notably recedes in front of light-coloured walls – two black rectangles in the living room simply isn't everyone's idea of decor.

It's held in place by mounting pins that engage the surrounds of the tweeter and woofer – no holes in the baffle, no tools, no visible fasteners. The fabric lets sound pass through almost unimpeded while keeping fingers, claws and dust away from the 6½-inch woofer cone and the 29 mm soft-dome tweeter.

Who is the grille suited to?

Straight talk: if you set up purely for sound and run the speakers bare anyway, you don't need it – any fabric in front of the dome physically costs a touch of brilliance. But if you see the Opticon 2 MK2 as a piece of furniture in a living space where kids, cats and dusters are on the move, you get protection and a calmer overall look in one. And if the last percent is called for after all: pull it off, listen, clip it back on.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Opticon 2 MK2 lose resolution with the grille on?

Not to a degree that's noticeable in everyday living. The acoustic fabric is designed for transparency. If you want the last percent, pull the cover off for the listening session and clip it back on afterwards – the pins in the driver surrounds make that a non-issue, and no tools are needed.

Which cabinet gets the grey fabric as standard?

The white-lacquered one. DALI includes a mottled grey fabric with the light-coloured Opticon 2 MK2; in the accessories programme this colour is called Mountain Grey. As a spare part it's therefore the first choice for anyone wanting to keep a white Opticon 2 MK2 in original condition.

Does the listing apply per piece or per pair?

Per piece. One grille covers one speaker. Since DALI sells the Opticon 2 MK2 individually, this matches the usual ordering pattern – for a stereo pair, count on two covers. Just tell us the quantity you need when ordering.

Can I also use the grille on the Opticon 6 MK2?

No. Every grille is tailored to one baffle, and the Opticon 6 MK2 floorstanding speaker has its own, noticeably larger cover. The grilles of the first Opticon generation are also separate items. The exact model designation on the nameplate decides which part is right.
