The DALI Opticon 2 MK2 Grille, Black is the tool-free removable front cover for the DALI Opticon 2 MK2 bookshelf speaker – acoustically transparent fabric on a precisely fitted frame that protects the drivers without bending the sound.

Black is the fabric DALI includes as standard with the dark cabinet finishes of the Opticon 2 MK2 – Satin Black and Tobacco Oak. As a single unit, this grille is therefore primarily a replacement: for the one that got lost, the one that got bent, or the one that didn't survive a move on the shelf. It sits on mounting pins that engage the surrounds of the tweeter and woofer: it comes off and goes back on by hand, with no tools and no visible fasteners on the baffle.

The fabric is tuned so sound passes through almost unimpeded, while the 6½-inch woofer cone and the 29 mm soft-dome tweeter stay protected from fingers, claws and dust.

Who is the grille suited to?

Straight talk: if you set up your system mainly for focused listening, leave the cover off – any fabric in front of the dome physically costs a touch of brilliance. But if your speakers stand in a lived-in living room where a child's arm or a cat's paw sometimes passes by, you'll want it. The Opticon 2 MK2 is too good to retire early over a dented cone. It comes off in a second.

Frequently asked questions

Can you hear the grille?

Not in everyday use. DALI tunes the acoustic fabric for transparency, so audible losses don't occur. If you listen very critically, you can pull the cover off by hand in a second; otherwise it stays on and keeps dust off the 6½-inch woofer and the soft-dome tweeter.

Which Opticon 2 MK2 finishes does black suit?

All of them, visually most naturally with Satin Black and Tobacco Oak – DALI includes the black fabric as standard with both of these. On the white-lacquered cabinet, black works as a deliberate contrast. Technically the grille fits every colour variant of the Opticon 2 MK2.

Do I get one cover or two?

One. The item is a single unit for one speaker, which suits the Opticon 2 MK2 well since the speaker itself is also sold individually. If you're equipping a stereo pair, take two. Tell us the quantity and your order goes out complete.

Does it fit the first-generation Opticon 2 or the Opticon 1 MK2?

Neither. The grille is tailored to the baffle of the Opticon 2 MK2. The smaller Opticon 1 MK2 has its own cover with its own item number, and DALI also carries separate spare parts for the first Opticon generation. If in doubt, send us a photo.
