This colour is the special case in the range: DALI doesn't include a white cover with any Opticon 1 MK2. The dark cabinets come with a black one, the white-lacquered version with a mottled grey one – the white version, called Marshmallow White by DALI, is only available separately. If you want your white Opticon 1 MK2 to be consistently light-coloured all the way through, you need to order it deliberately. That's exactly what this listing is for.

Mounting pins that engage the surrounds of the tweeter and woofer hold it in place: the cover can be pulled off and put back on by hand, with no tools and no visible fasteners on the baffle. The fabric lets sound pass through almost unimpeded while keeping fingers, claws and dust away from the cone and tweeter.

Who is the grille suited to?

Straight talk: if sound alone is what decides for you, you don't need it – any fabric in front of the dome physically costs a touch of brilliance, and the standard grey cover would do the same acoustically. This grille is a decision made with the eye: a light wall, a light sideboard, a light box, no dark surface sticking out of the room. That it protects the drivers along the way is a bonus. Does the white cover cost you sound quality?

Not audibly in everyday use. DALI designs the fabric for acoustic transparency, regardless of colour. For critical listening you can take it off in a second; in normal everyday listening it stays on and protects the cone and tweeter from whatever comes its way.

Is the white grille included with the speaker?

No. DALI includes a black cover with the dark cabinets and a mottled grey one with the white one. The white version, called Marshmallow White by DALI, is only available separately as an accessory. If you want your white Opticon 1 MK2 to be entirely white, you order it deliberately.

How many grilles do I need?

Does the cover also fit other Opticon models?

No, every grille is tailored to one model. This one belongs on the Opticon 1 MK2. For the Opticon 2 MK2, Vokal, LCR or the floorstanding models, DALI carries its own items, and the front covers of the first Opticon generation are likewise separate spare parts in the catalogue.
