DALI Opticon 1 MK2 Grille, Black

The DALI Opticon 1 MK2 Grille, Black is the clip-on front cover for the DALI Opticon 1 MK2 compact speaker – acoustically transparent fabric on a close-fitting frame that protects the drivers without bending the sound.

Black is the colour DALI includes as standard with the dark cabinet finishes of the Opticon 1 MK2. As a single item, this grille is therefore mainly one thing: a replacement. For the cover that vanished during a move, the one the cat mistook for a scratching post – or simply a second set in the cupboard. It's held by mounting pins that engage the surrounds of the tweeter and woofer: you pull it off by hand and press it back on by hand, no tools, no visible fixings on the baffle.

The acoustic fabric is tuned so that sound passes through almost unimpeded while still protecting the cone and tweeter from fingers, claws and dust.

Who is the grille suitable for?

Let's be clear: anyone chasing the last trace of airiness from the treble in a darkened listening room prefers no grille at all – any fabric in front of the dome costs a touch of brilliance, physically speaking. For everyday life with children, pets and a duster, though, it's exactly what keeps your drivers flawless for years. Thanks to the clip fit, it's off and back on in a second, which nicely settles the whole debate.

Does the grille affect the sound?

Not audibly in everyday use. DALI tunes the acoustic fabric so sound passes through almost unimpeded. If you listen especially critically, you can pull the cover off by hand in a second – the rest of the time it reliably protects the cone and tweeter.

Do I need two grilles for a pair of speakers?

Yes, this cover is a single unit for one speaker. For a complete pair of Opticon 1 MK2 you order two. Just tell us how many you need – we'll include the right quantity with your order before it leaves our warehouse.

Which colour does the Opticon 1 MK2 come with as standard?

DALI includes a black grille with the dark cabinets, and a grey mottled one with the white-lacquered version. The white grille isn't included with any variant and is only available as an accessory. This black grille is therefore a replacement or second set for Satin Black and Tobacco Oak.

Does the grille also fit the older Opticon MK1 series?

No, it's model-specific. DALI lists the front covers of the first Opticon generation as their own spare parts with their own part numbers. This grille is made for the Opticon 1 MK2 – and even within the MK2 series, each size only fits its own model, not the neighbouring one.
