DALI Epikore 9 Floorstanding Speakers, Gloss Walnut (Pair)

The DALI Epikore 9 is a 4-way floorstanding speaker from the Epikore series that takes driver technology from DALI's flagship KORE – here with real walnut veneer under high-gloss lacquer.

The curved cabinet stands 1.31 metres tall and weighs 64 kilograms. The walnut veneer's grain runs beneath several layers of lacquer and lets the speaker shift between warm brown and almost amber depending on the light. Four drivers work on the baffle: the EVO-K hybrid tweeter module, a 6.5-inch midrange driver and, below it, two 8-inch woofers.

Why the Epikore 9?

Because size here means engineering, not showing off. Two 20 cm woofers with SMC Gen 2 magnet system move a lot of air without the cones breaking a sweat; the dedicated midrange driver keeps the range where voices live completely free from bass activity. The result: 29 Hz of depth that doesn't come at the expense of the midrange.

What you hear

A soundstage that reaches well beyond the speakers, and bass that delivers contour rather than volume. The planar magnetostat up top renders cymbals and reverb tails right up to 34 kHz without turning harsh. The warm walnut tone takes much of the visual weight off the size in the process – in the living room, the tower reads more like furniture than equipment. Who is the Epikore 9 suitable for?

Let's be clear: this isn't a speaker for 18 square metres and a mini-amp. It needs floor space, distance from the back wall, and an amplifier that doesn't buckle at 4 Ω. In return you get a design that won't feel dated in ten years – provided you give it the room it needs.

Gloss Walnut is the finish for anyone who wants high-end in the living room, not the studio. Sonically, the Epikore 9 plays in a league where compromises become rare; SoundStage! Hi-Fi put it on its reference list as a "Recommended Reference Component" in February 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Is the walnut finish real wood?

Yes. Under the high-gloss lacquer lies real walnut veneer, applied over the curved cabinet – no printed foil. That means every pair varies slightly in grain. The lacquer on top is polished in several layers; fingerprints do show up, but they're easily removed with a dry cloth.

How deep does the Epikore 9 play?

Down to 29 Hz within ±3 dB – that covers double bass, organ pedal and cinema effects without a subwoofer. Two 8-inch woofers per side in a bass-reflex cabinet make this possible. Room matters here: under about 30 square metres, this depth tends to excite room modes rather than reward you.

How heavy is the Epikore 9 and who sets it up?

64 kilograms each, 1310 × 422 × 554 millimetres (H × W × D) – not something you carry up the stairs alone. Magnetic spikes and floor protection pads are included. We deliver the pair, unpack, set it up and fine-tune it; we take the packaging straight back with us.
